Those are probably more secure then in the back of most people's pickups!
A lot of cars don't have the passthrough in the trunk anymore, I had an 07 Accord hybrid, the battery was behind the back seat so no passthrough. Really missed that option.

My car has that, but I don't like using it. We call it the 'ski hole' . There's no good way to secure a board or skis that way. I've had to stop fast enough that stuff got moving up into the dash. I try to stick to using my roof rack if I can plan ahead.

My commuter is a 04 Corolla, rear seats fold down, it will fit 10ft sections of pipe or lumber. If it wasnt a beater I would probably think twice about some of the stuff I've put in it.

That’s why the first thing that I do when getting a new truck is take the spare tire out. Up here leaving it in place just leaves you with a rusty rim by the time that you need it, and it also holds the road salt so that you end up with a rusty frame. My first Ford Ranger had a nice tire holder which hinged down. I run a lot of dirt roads so when I had my first flat I dropped the tire, only to discover that the rim was completely filled with gravel. Because it was winter I had to bring it into the cab to thaw enough so that I could clean it out. More recently I had left just my house with my 3 YO Sierra when I heard a “thud”. Looking in my mirror I saw my spare tire laying in the road. I thought the cable had probably broken as you had experienced, instead the bracket which attaches to the frame had broken. It’s a pain sometimes having it take up space in the bed: but nowhere near as bad as having a flat miles from nowhere and discovering the spare is gone.

The undercoat that gets sprayed on my truck every year seems to be protecting the cable from rust, it is 10 years old and still looks as solid as when it was new. On the other hand, the dirt that gets sucked up there and mixes with the layer of goopy undercoat makes a heck of a coating. The last time I had a flat and took the tire down, I had to scrape off over a 1/4 inch of stuff that looked pretty similar to a spray in bed liner. Other than the crud though, the rim looked to be pretty pristine. No rust to speak of, and the paint was still all there once I scraped my way down to it.

What stopped working for me was the stupid spare tire lock, which is sort of like a stud keylock that is supposed to stiop people from stealing the spare tire. It was so crudded up that there was no way the keylock would grip it and let me get the tire down. A few years ago I had a low tire and tried to change it and couldn't get the spare down! Had a trailer full of horses on the back at the time too, and was still a few hours from home. I was considering cutting the cable to get the tire off but luckily it was a slow leak (I discovered later that the TPMS inside the tire valve had corroded and decided to slowly let the air out) and I was able to limp the rest of the way home by stopping every half hour to refill the tire. Soon as I got the chance I got rid of the keylock and just left the end that fits the end of the jack cranking pole. Yes, my spare tire is now steal-able, but what the heck is the point of a spare tire that won't crank down when you have a flat?

I saw this guy at Loweç—´. Itç—´ always fun in the loading area.

Hanging out at the loading area at Lowe's or HD can be entertaining... best bet though is to set up a lounge chair and have you go at your favorite beverage at a boat launch.

That is great fun. Who forgot the drain plug, didn't get a line on to keep control of it, good stuff. I'd NEVER miss any of those launching mine. At least not that I'd admit

Your fine if you can get your speed up in time. Or so im told.....

I know what you mean. Going to the wood mill on my way back from work to pick up a few 2.5" posts for a chicken run, i am allways worried that they will smash my radio when i have to make a sudden stop.

I have been laughed at in this situation. I went boating in a very expensive boat. Returning to dock, the owner said "you handle the boat while I go get the truck and trailer." I have no boating experience.

I was between two docks in a fairly tight space with other boats around, and others putting in and taking out. I was a jangled mess, making 10,000 micro-adjustments to avoid hitting anything. How I did not hit something is something of a miracle.

Hmmmm... So we had a short conversation:
Me : Sir, did you know you are missing your dust caps?
Him: Yea, I have been meaning to get some new ones.
Me: Pretty hard on bearings to let dirt in.
Him: Those are pretty new bearings.
Me, to myself: probably will do no good to offer the use of my tire gauge... out of state plates, so he probably went righ back to highway. I should have shot a temp on his hubs and tires.

I was intrigued by the difference in the two trailer wheels. The one on the left looks brand new; even the wheel studs are different (shorter) than the other one. I'm guessing this guy has had other issues with his trailer...failed wheel bearings will just be one more.

That's not on the road is it? Hopefully just moving around the parking lot. Looks like a 2" coupler or smaller, sitting on top of a 2 5/16" ball. Notice the trailer light plug hanging free, and a plug adaptor sitting on the bumper.

Yep. Launch ramps provide endless weekend entertainment. I lived next to one for years on my boat and there was always something fun to do when I was home.

Looks like plenty of truck and trailer. In the picture, it looks like the truck is on a slight slope, making the tongue look heavier. It’s hard for me to tell, from the picture.
