I was going to post a very meaningful statement here, took me four tries to get words on the screen that DIDN'T offend SOMEONE, I gave up and instead, I can only say, "If you do not like someones post or the Title OFFENDS you, for your sake or someone else's, DO NOT READ IT, OR POST IN IT" !

SIMPLE ! This Site is not Political or Racist in anyway !

Now I am going find a spot and throw-up, the world it is a changing but IMHO... Not for the BETTER, and I for one am getting sick of it !

Oh ya, I was thinking about getting a Post Driver, is that OK to post here ?!?

If you ask me to bid a job for you and we agree on a price, it's non of your business how much material I order, have delivered, and haul away. You agreed to a price. If I had extra material written into the bid maybe you should have shopped around. Nothing unlawful or deceptive about that in any manner.

REALLY? If you provide a bid to someone that includes extra material you intend haul away and use on another property that would be FRAUD! Unless you clearly state you are buying and taking extra material as part of your compensation up front you are stealing material paid for by your client.

Not really. Under the terms of the PC police in this thread you as the customer would have abrogated the right to the materials.

Ovrszd is correct, he would have included a contingency in case his material estimate was short. That is normal, but let me point something out if you think he is wrong. If he had estimated short and needed MORE, most people would not offer to pay him addditional over his quoted price. So it cuts both ways and that is part of the way contracting works. A quote is a quote unless there are stipulations stating an estimated quantity and anything +/- would be adjusted on the final price at a quoted rate.

I have no idea what my contractors arrangements with their suppliers are. Perhaps they are dropping off materials for two jobs at a my place and charging them separately. Perhaps there is a price break to where it is the same price to order 15 pieces as there is to order 20.
Either way, I generally get a couple of quotes and I go with whichever contractor will do a good job for the best price.
If they order material for another job along with my materials, it's none of my business who paid for them as long as the supplier was paid (so that they don't file a lein) and the contractor only charges me the quoted price.

Yes, really. Look up the definition of "bid". Again, it's non of your business how much material I buy or use. You agreed to have a specific job completed to specific standards. It's non of your business whether I use 12 2/x4s or 13 2x4s. And it's certainly non of your business what I do with any leftover materials. If you want it to be your business then you should have just had me bid labor and you take care of materials.

My HVAC guy and gutter guy bid my jobs. They both showed up with wayyyyy more material than needed. Am I to assume they ripped me off and committed fraud??? REALLY? :)

If you require a bid from a contractor you can immediately assume and accept that 10% has been added to the cost. I'd rather hire a contractor that I know and trust, forget the bid, saved me a LOT of money over the past year.

Here's an example. Well,,, two.

Bought my building materials thru a local supplier. He gave me a written cost estimate for materials for a guideline. As the house build progressed and we were ready for sheathing I looked at the cost estimate. I compared the price to Menard's price in the city. I could save $5 per sheet. The builder said you might mention this to the local guy but don't expect him to budge. He doesn't move enough sheathing to compete. I mentioned it. The supplier adjusted his price and sold to me matching Menards. Would he have done that if I had demanded he "bid" the material???

My builder was ready for studs. He had the supplier deliver 200 more studs than needed. He then sorted thru the studs using only the best. Sent back all the culls. Would he have done that if I had him confined to a "bid" where any extra time spent is a loss to him?

I'm very Blessed to live in a community that communicates. I selected my contractors based on local word of mouth opinions. No bids needed.
