Okay, I usually lurk as I feel I don't have much to say but what happened yesterday struck me as humorous. So, I'm sharing just for humor's sake; no knock on my neighbor.

So I was on my 40 acres. It's vacant ground, about 25 acres of pasture and 15 of woods. My ground is to the north and west of their 10 acres with a home. A young couple and 3 kids moved in about a year ago. They have worked hard on the house, built a nice shop and keep about a third of the property nicely mowed and are making good progress cleaning up the junk prior owners have dumped in their woods. Had a couple of minor fence issues which were resolved by a friendly discussion.

The gate to my property that I use is very close to their property. I usually just open the gate, pull in and leave the truck to hunt the woods.

So yesterday, Mike, the husband, approaches me and starts a polite discussion. I'm waiting for what he wants as he is usually pretty quiet and his wife is the talker. He is being friendly and finally asks, in a somewhat embarrassed tone, if I would mind parking my truck so it is facing away from his house. He explains that when he opens the drapes in the morning and sees my truck (It's probably 200', maybe 300' away) that he is creeped out by it. Now Mike is a big guy and a bit of a bodybuilder. His size is intimidating. He's a big, strong, country boy.

I smile and say "Sure, no problem. I'll just back it in." He thanked me and said he felt a little silly asking but they moved there to have privacy and it just creeps him out to see my truck facing his window. He said he discussed it with his wife and she made him talk to me about it. :D He's a big boy. He could probably pick up the end of a car if he wanted to. He was polite and somewhat sheepish the whole time.

I just find the situation mildly humorous. I'm glad to back in if it makes him feel better. I have been backing out to leave; now I'll back in and pull straight out to leave. Hopefully, this puts a smile on others' faces.

Glad you posted just goes to show it don't have to be all bad.

Easy peasy.

We've got a neighbor a few houses down that drives into her driveway, turns left into her grass, and parks in the front lawn parallel to her house. Very early in the morning, she starts up her truck to let it warm up, leaves the headlights on, and walks into the house for 20 minutes to half an hour. Her headlights shine down the row of houses and lights up about 6 of our living rooms.

I'm so Blessed to live where I do. I think this may be the first of more to come "humorous" visits with your neighbor.

Strange to be creeped out by a truck 200-300 ft. away. If turning it around makes them happy, that's ok.

I have a neighbor 300 feet away who came over and said he had to get blinds for his bedroom cuz of my security light. Its on at dusk, off at dawn, 5+5 watts of LEDs.

OK then. So I put a motion sensor on it, now its off most of the time. And the trees have leaves now, which certainly blocks it now.

People get used to having things a certain way. And since they cant buy your land to make the changes they want, rather than change their wants, they feel the solution is to ask someone else to change their way.

I bet the guy & wife like their view being devoid of other peoples “stuff” and probably thought it would be pretty easy to get you to park in a slightly different location. Probably sheepish cuz he was embarrassed for being so petty.

I am glad his request is easily solved but I am glad he is not my neighbor. And I agree that is likely not the last odd request you will get.

Not to derail this warming thread, but if I may add.....

Last week the neighbor's garage and yard light was lighting up our bedroom ceiling All Night long. I had never noticed it once over the past 30 years, (we are "good neighbours , both ways). The garage is more than 150 yards away, but that doesn't stop light!

I went over to see if the light could be re-aimed, thinking something new had come up and the light had been adjusted.

Well, There was a step ladder under the lamp when I pulled up on the Kubota tractor. I mentioned that the light was keeping my wife up late in jest.
Good neighbor Bill replied that "we are on the same page" and that he had just turned the motion switch off on the fixture. Turns out a nesting pair of Phoebe's had put a mud nest on the fixture that somehow kept the motion sensor on all the time.
We got a chuckle out of that.....

All is well. Now he wants me to help him change the fixture so he can fit energy saving LED lamps......when the birds have left the nest.

Ain't life special! ;-)

Many fixtures can accept LED lights as is.

Agreed. So thankful to be the recipient of 6 previous generations of men who 'hoarded' land:laughing:

OP- you sound like a gracious and patient neighbor. You deserve a lifetime of peace with the people around you.

I see my nearest neighbor about 2X per year. Their house is 4.5 miles away by road. He is a cattle rancher and is too busy for much socializing. If I can/could see a vehicle from my house - they would be trespassing. Easy situation to resolve.

We all have our issues. Kind of nice that your neighbor politely asked you to do him such a simple favor.

Hi all. I’m glad others are seeing a neighbor relationship go well. He may indeed come back with another request. I’ll worry about that then; for now I’m just going to enjoy having a neighbor who takes care of his property and is friendly. I ‘ll stay friendly and be a good neighbor just because that is who I try to be.

He really is a kind-hearted guy. He had two pit bulls that were well trained and kept on his property. They got a couple of cats to control the rodents. Yup, the dogs got hold of one cat and injured it. His wife and kids were very upset. He quickly re-homed the dogs. I’m convinced he is a good guy at heart. And he certainly is a lot better than the previous neighbor.

Neighbors... LoL!

My neighbor story is about land, I have 10+ acres, my neighbor has 22 acres, he decide to build on his property, where you say..., right on the extreme corner next to my property, house facing my driveway, approximately 75 feet distance. My first thought is WHY did he put his house here ?

When they built and moved in I explained I wanted to remove a small uprise in the land between the properties, it would give him a better view of the road when exiting his drive and I would get some decomposed granite (DG) for road repair; the next thing I know there is a fence up and over the uprise of land. I asked about what was going on and he walked away from me... where's this going !?! I almost took down my Side of the uprise and if the fence fell so be it but I made it look good and got some DG so I'm ahead... a little !

He then starts using my driveway to access the side and back of his house, I asked him about it and his response was the people we purchased the land from said it was a road and we could use it as needed. I explained to him it was my driveway (1/4 mile long) and I don't appreciate anyone using it without asking permission. His response is that it was in the property deal, so I said it again that I didn't give anyone permission to use this driveway, please do not use it. He has a back gate but refuses to use it because the approach is too steep, fix it.
He has since stopped using my driveway and hasn't spoken to me since... not a bad thing !

He sees me repairing the driveway, wet winter, dirt road, big ruts, and I have a stock pile of DG, he asks me if I will not only let him have some of the DG to fix his yard but his driveway too. I asked him how he would get it IF I were to give him some, he wanted me to bring it to his drive and yard and wanted me to spread it. I explained to him my position about if I break the tractor fixing his road and yard, what will I do for my road all he said was, "Come on that thing won't break" ! What happened to the no talking to me thing ? Remember this guy has 22 acres of land, a lot of dirt out there to use, you just need to dirt it up !

Next with the wet winter comes weeds, big weeds and many, many weeds. I got the brush hog going and ran it down the side of the driveway, the neighbor comes out and asks if I can get closer to his property so it won't look so messy... PITA ! I got as close to his fence that I could, cleaned up that section, and left ! Next time I am down in that area he comes out and asks me if I intend to trim along the fence... man WTF is going on, I told him no I am not trimming along his fence, I didn't put the house on top of someone else's property and so I don't intend to clean up. I told him to please feel free to clean up along the fense where I couldn't get, about 6 to 8 inches, but he says it is my property and I need to clean it up... I just told it wasn't going to happen and left.

This neighbor didn't even trim up on his side of the fence, not sure if he thinks since he put in a fence both owners would do the upkeep and if he is too lazy to clean it up himself, to make his house look better, then I can't help him.

Now every time he is outside and I come by in my truck, he walks the other way... what was that old show... "People Are Funny" !

I take my trash down to the road yesterday morning... and the neighbor is talking to two of his friends, he is on his property and his friends, people I know, are on my property, no problem there, but he was too lazy to open his gate and either let them in or walk out to talk to them. His property around his house is all fenced now, 22 acres and his house has a fence about the size of a small football field with three gates, and friends have to come on my property to get his attention so they can talk through the fence !?! I am coming down the drive he sees me, waves me over and asks with his friends present, if I was going to trim the fence line, I told him outright, not to hold his breath, I got as close to the fence as I was comfortable with and if he wanted to make his house look better he should trim both sides of the fence because I wasn't going to.
I expect the Fire Marshal to come by and tell me I have to trim his fence, (a California THING) I'm thinking maybe I can just pull it down with the brush hog... no I wouldn't do that... !

I guess I am the bad neighbor here, I'm guessing someone will tell me I should just help him out but I'm thinking the list of things to help out with, would get longer REAL FAST !

I've been wanting to talk to someone about this neighbor and get it off my chest since he started talking to me but as I said I am the bad neighbor... I guess !

Thanks for reading, I needed that !

Scrambler- glad you got it off yer chest:laughing:

Man alive- you mean you have 10 acres, he has 22, and his best idea was to build his house 75ft away from your driveway? How far is his dwelling from yours?

People ARE funny. I just hope I'm not one of them...

I am above his property, and back aways.
If I am sitting down on my front porch, I can't see his house, so maybe that is a good thing !
If I stand I can see a little more than the roof and the only thing I can hear, when the wind is blowing my way, is the dog, so that too is ok !

But as you said, WHY did he build so close, my first thought is he didn't want to put in a longer driveway, but that isn't too bad... just don't expect others to maintain your property for you !

When the house was done, the wife and I went down to talk, never got asked in, just stood there... ok, some people are like that... and we didn't move out here to to be around too many people... !

I just needed to talk about it with people that don't know me; my thoughts wouldn't get back to "THE NEIGHBOR", LoL !

Now I'm going again... he wants all of the neighbors on the road, with Tractors, to fix the main road... his words, they can't expect me to do it !
The part in front of his property is not maintained by anyone now (2 years), it was before he moved in but the guys that did it say, "he can do it now", not sure what happened there.
The neighbor complains his wife can't get in with their car with the road in that condition... "buy a 4x like everyone else" !

My wife had to get a new car, (the VW Diesel thing) and she got an all wheel drive version of the car she liked... why because sometime you need it, its like a Road Grader, Brush Hog, Box Blade, you don't need them all the time but when you do, thank God !
