And here, there were no vinyl stickers or magnetic letters/numbers. It was hand painted with a small brush and lead based, yes lead based paint. I truly believe here it started the whole business of lettering.
Was a local guy that was at excellent hand painter. For $20 he would come to your location and hand paint your truck doors. He was very good at it. For extra he'd do fancy writing. Babbs was his last name. Worked out of an early 60s Ford Econoline van. Good times.

What make me "feel old" is getting up each morning. It is painful and I swear that I'm not long for this world. Yet, some coffee and cookies and a visit on the computer, and I'm ready to go............at least most days.

Richard: Yup all hand lettered. Vinyl in later years. The fellow who lettered all our trucks and signage for our two farm markets I met when he was recommended to pinstripe my car.
47 years later and we’re still the best of friends!

Well, this thread has definitely been an interesting read so far.
At first it was starting to make me feel young, then it started making me feel old ...... and then I just accepted I'm confused.
Which of course means I'm just not going to think/worry about it anymore seeing as how over the last several years it seems that the older I get the younger I feel, despite the years of wear and tear on my body not getting to be any less.
Thankfully though I've managed to live/survive long enough to have (finally) learned that I'd rather learn from the mistakes of others rather than solely from my own mistakes (tends to hurt less that way), and if it turns out I need to do something "stupid" it's worth taking the time to think about how to do it semi-intelligently (also tends to hurt less) .....

I really felt my age when I went into hospital for a prostate related operation. The operation involves shoving a laser up your dick to burn a wider tract so the bladder empties completely and reduces urinary tract infections.The nurse who took me to theatre and was the anesthetists assistant had been a young schoolgirl who I would talk to when she came out to the mailbox to pick up the mail. I had been the rural mailman around her area for about 15 years. Ididn'y recognise her but she remembered me.
When I was much younger and working in a factory of 2000+ people I would try to keep up with birthdays. Most of the maintenance people were older than me. So on their birthday I would congratulate them and ask them how old they were. I would then take out my tape measure, extend it out to about 80 inches, and bend the tape double. I would then explain that 76 was the average age of death of a male in the US and that 38 was the top of the hill and if they were over that age they were 'over the hill' and on the downward slope. It was usually not greatly appreciated.

I had a grad student tell me how much her mom appreciated my help when SHE was in school. That grad student gave birth to her first child while I knew her. I retired before the third generation became college age.

I was unloading a 9x24 ag tire from my truck at a tire shop--no big deal--and a guy in his 40's or a little older said "let me help you with that" and did before I could object.

I like to think that TBNers have simply aged, and gotten better with age I might add, as TBN itself has gotten older. :thumbsup::laughing::laughing::laughing:
I am on a couple of other websites where they have polled for member's ages. If my memory is right, most of the members are over the age of 60. A large number are in the 40-60 range, and the remainder under 40.
For the record, I am a younger member.
