A couple of weeks ago I met up with a student I had many years ago. He had been a real "Hemorrhoid" in school. He had shown up late, and unprepared just like when he was a student. But the real blow was when he told me he was a "Great-grandfather". The "Kid" really made me feel old.

I only feel old physically... Kills me I can't jump off my tailgate anymore. It's embarrassing 'to me' to have to sit down on it first. It is now getting harder and harder to get down on the ground 'on purpose'. It used to be just hard to get up. Dang gravity.

I held the door open the other day for an elderly lady and she said, thank you young man.

Sure made me feel good!

Work has been hiring lately after decades of firing so we are getting in some college age people....

We were having a meeting and a topic came up that reminded me of a segment in a travel show on TV from the previous night.

I mentioned that the segment was about Japan, it's growing elderly population and how the young people were moving to the city leaving villages with fewer and older people. This one village on the show had a young woman move to the village, the village was very glad to have her, and she looked to be the youngest person living in the town.

One of our new hires looked at me and said, "I know how she feels." :confused3::shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing:

We got a real good laugh out of that one liner.

Reading this discussion and I keep see and advert asking for my age....

I recall there was a time where I’d think of an old girl friend and wondered what she was up to and what she looked like today. Reality would set in and I’d say “NAH. She’s probably married, overweight and has kids now”.

NOW it’s more likely she has grandkids and GREATgrandkids....

A childhood friend of mine moved to Florida when he was in his early 20s. A few years ago he commented to me how the demographics of Florida had changed...when he moved there it was nothing but old people, but now there are lots of people our age.
I don't think he caught the irony in that statement (we're both in our late 60s).

When I'm getting lunch at the deli of the local convenience store; everybody there is getting pizza, fried chicken, hamburgers and fries. Meanwhile I'm loading up at the salad bar. I keep waiting for somebody to tap me on the shoulder and demand that I relinquish my man card.

My mother's still going strong at 93, and she says the biggest drawback to living that long is that there aren't many people your age left. Most of the "old people" are a good 10 years younger, and come from a time that was different enough that it can be hard to relate.

I don't see myself living that long...while most of the women on her side of the family lived well into their 90s and beyond, the men only made it to their mid-late 70s. Likewise both my father and his father died at 84. That's long enough for me.

I'm not sure I'd like the world that seems to be developing, if no other reason than the increasingly intrusive technology that tracks your every move not to mention the political divisiveness that only seems to be getting worse.

You're not alone. There's a steakhouse we take my mother to every year for her birthday that has a very good salad bar, and that's what I'll get for my meal. Then again, I'm not much of one for steak in the first place.
I still keep my man card active by stopping at 5 Guys whenever we're in the southern part of the state.

I think every generation has said the same thing about living in the future. When I was a kid Missouri made it mandatory that trucks over 1/2T had to have name and town/state labeled on each door. Even farm trucks.

OH MY GOD!!!!!! How dare the the government be that intrusive!!!!! Maybe I don't want everyone knowing who I am!!!!
