I put my Tablo up on a tall cookie rack, it works well now it is only warm. Tablo says the heat is not a problem but I figure less buildup is better. Their idea on not having a fan had to do with not wanting the noise when people are watching the TV. I would guess this is going to be similar for all brands. Mine will tune 2 stations and that is when I check it but I have not determined if it is cooler while tuning just 1 or none at the time.

Two learning opportunities for my wife today to cut down data use:
1. I noticed she was watching CBS Young and the Restless live through YouTube TV, I reminded her we get CBS via the antenna on Tablo which uses no data on the plan.
2. She left a Hallmark show streaming in the TV room while she was in the kitchen washing dishes. I reminded her to pause or exit when she does this. I did not watch but she may have backed up to replay what she missed. :banghead:

We are at 211 GB on the 8th and I have conflicting into on when the cap resets. A chat on line with Xfinity said the 15th of the month. A FAQ listing on Xfinity said the 1st of the month. My billing period which is the only thing that makes sense is the 23rd. I guess I will have to call or watch it every few days. My account says it is delayed up to 24 hours so who knows.

I am happy to report that we are at 429 GB on the 20th largely due to my wife responding to my nagging to not start a streaming show when she is in bed and going to fall asleep and in general has been watching shows from the antenna (Tablo) more than before. And she has only 1 TV on at a time now so that is huge. So while at first we were going to be busting through the 1TB cap, we should now be fine. Next month we will not have the fast start we had this month.

Fortunately rescanning is easy to do.

Find a knucklehead neighbor with a "guest" wifi setup. Our house is in a development on 1/4 acre lots.....I see 2-3 unsecured "guest" wifi connections now with the nighthawk router :)
.

Did the new nighthawk router make all the difference?

I never moved forward on the barn connection from my neighbor... they don't want to change anything on their end but gave me their password to use when I am at my property but signal will not reach barn...

I'm here right now using Verizon through my cell for Internet...

As for TV... not a flat screen in the house... just old CRT with convertor boxes... I guess my expectations are low but with over 50 channels and half in English I am too cheap to tie into a contract...

Yes I have a noticeable difference with the nighthawk router vs the all in one cable modem and Wifi router provided by cable company. I see more networks to choose from and my 5g range is almost twice as far

If my signal is weak which happens from time to time, I assume from inference, the picture pixelates a bit then Tablo bounces out of the station. Selecting the station again resumes normal viewing. Occasionally it bounces out again at which time we move to another station. It would seem Table would stay on the station longer before kicking out. Is anyone else seeing this? I thought I would check here before contacting Tablo.

Mine does it, but not very often. If you contact them, please let us know the verdict.

I had a terrible experience with BELL (Canada) this week over the Amber Alert BS.

But doing some reading, I found out some disturbing things, and it puts various experience in focus.

It's about the call centers for all of our telecoms. And apparently they all work the same.

If you call to cancel, they (the operator) get a debit on their commission. So, often they will hand the call over to another "sucker" or even put you on hold hoping you will hang up. Also, sometimes, taking no notes, so there is no record of you wanting to cancel.

They also, try and give you as little free or any deals as possible as this also works against them personaly.

You can't get the cable only channels - just what's on broadcast.
exactly!. you lose all the good channels, but all these scammers suggest their product will replace cable tv.. nope, it don't!.. why have they been allowed to scam people so long?.

I just use Rabbit Ears... 50+ stations and half in English.

No interest/time for cable.

I was talking with our young receptionist in the break room today... she was working on her budget...

She and her husband are both 24... they pay $258 a month for their phone plan and $160 a month for cable... cable use to be over $200

This works out to over $5,000 annually!!!

Add to that car notes/insurance totaling $14,000 annually plus rent of 18,000 and then utilities of $3,000

So they have spent 40k before buying groceries, clothes etc...

Curious if they are in debt.

Yes... if you mean credit cards... often just the minimum...

They are not unusual... car notes, cable, phone and rent... and the money is spent.

Maybe my age is showing but I have always paid cash for my cars... always used/well used with one new car when working overseas bought back in 2002

Never had a cable or cell bills... pay off my card each month as I promised the folks I would do...

My Grandmother was a product of the Depression and extremely debt adverse... she saw many good people go down living high on the hog in the good times and then loose it all in the 1930's...

I don't owe anyone a nickle, never have, but a lot of people, that owe lots, sure have more and nicer stuff than I do. Makes you wonder who's right sometimes.

You can't get the cable only channels - just what's on broadcast.

And just the stations that are strong enough. For me that is 61 stations
