No sacrasm and it is not morning, not even in Texas. Kando will get it done, be patient.

I am kinda old already.
Am beginning to worry if I will EVER see the end of this story.

Holding off for Easter weekend which will (hopefully) see us off work to give us plenty of time.

I left this thread for a long time since it didn't seem to be going anywhere. But I almost had one of my own the other day to add. Older ATV, drain plug for the transmission is 1/2" hex head, but you can't even see it. You have to feel for it from the bottom through about a 1-1/2" hole through the frame. Found it and got a socket on it, but ..... slipped. Tried again, same thing. Went and got a different socket, repositioned myself as best I could to get the most uplift on the ratchet and ability to turn it more squarely and ....... success!!! Broke it lose, pulled it out with no further issue. Hope I don't ever have to do it again since I didn't replace it.

I had to replace cracked exhaust manifolds. I didn’t break any bolts but they must’ve been off before because they had 2 bolts already broke. I drilled them and tried to use an easy out. I broke an easy out one and the other wouldn’t come. I didn’t feel like pulling the head off for further work so I just mounted it with 6 bolts.

I ordered this set of square female/male sockets tonight. The bleeder plug in the center on the 1950's in-ground single post car lift is a 7/16" square male. It is recessed about 8" and the square head is still square and I want to keep it that way. A crows foot may have worked but I do not want to risk it since It may not have been out in many years. I liked this set because it comes with a storage box to make it easier to keep the set together is a drawer of seldom used special tools. There are cheaper options but without the right tool a 30 second job can become long by days, weeks, months. This thread has been thought provoking.

I should probably invest in one of those but I’ve never found a real need for one. The only recessed square holes I’ve encountered were either 1/2 or 3/8 and a ratchet worked fine. I did have to buy a set of female Torx sockets for removing vehicles seats.

Have you tried a left hand drill bit?
I pretty much gave up using easy outs a long time ago, because they often break, leaving an even worse problem.

A left hand bit (using the largest size possible without damaging threads) will heat the remainder of the bolt thread, as it also tries to back it out, and will often remove the bolt without even needing to use an easy out.

I have a complete set of left hand bits to 1/2"

I did not get that lucky. My plan was to use a long extension upside down with a wrench on the male square end but have not come up with a 7/16" drive ratchet set yet. :) If my 21 year old son wrenches professionally or not he may need them a few times over the next 50 years.

Kando says he has a buddy helping him out over Easter weekend so in the pool for when the plug finally comes out I'm going with Saturday, April 20th at 3:11 PM.

On what information do you base that recommendation?

Would there be over 1400 posts if no one thought Kando would ever get it done? :D
