Im wondering why people like ( Im not gonna mention names ) make videos on You tube, whats their incentive? Making these videos takes an incredible amount of time, in my opinion they have given up alot of their privacy, they are exposing and putting at risk their families cause of all the scum that walks the planet so why do people do this.

Im assuming they are getting paid......OK I dont understand who is paying them and how it could be such an ungodly amount that they are willing to push thru.

They are getting equipment in some cases by tractor manufacturers......do they get to keep it when their contract expires.

Some of these people have hundreds of you tube videos meaning literally thousands of hours. Are these people rich already? I cant find the time to even watch all their videos.

It may be a hobby. It might be so people will acknowledge their skills. Maybe it's even to help folks who have problems.

I have never gone to UTube except for links off TBN posts.

I don't watch any television at all, can't stand commercials, so I use the Internet for entertainment, primarily YouTube. Yes, it's amazing how many videos there are out there. Some, like Millennial Farmer, seem to like the spotlight, some seem to like showing off, some want to help by making how to videos, which personally I have found very helpful not being a mechanic and having lots of equipment to maintain. I think a recent game changer has been the use of drones. The pictures they take are just amazing and perhaps there are some Proud Papas out there trying to show their cool video skills.

The money comes in with subscribers. If you get over a certain count, you start getting paid and how that works I don't know. I thought I read you need 30K subscribers before that happens. That's when the annoying ads at the start of videos come in, each time the ad runs, likely a little money is paid. I bet those million count subscribers are getting a hefty advertising check so perhaps you can earn a living doing this.
I always have my mouse set to click on Skip Ads.

Car accidents seem to be very popular, a trend I think started because it seems every Russian has a video recorder on their dash, since they all seem to drive like crazy people and have constant accidents. Police chases are big too. Ultimately it's likely follow the money, if you get enough subscribers, you get money, a nice second job for some.

Probably starts as a hobby. Think of the thousands of hours folks spend with free time on hunting, fishing, gardening, rebuilding old cars, cooking etc. What pleases some is boring to others. A few years back a couple Utubed their 6 year old son critiquing toys so other parents would not spend their money on toys their children would only play with for a few minutes. That family are now multi millionaires because of the start of that first video.
I believe some do it for their ego because it makes them feel important. Some of the information given out is incorrect and sometimes plain dangerous. In my opinion a cell phone and Utube link up does not make one a expert! :)

I've asked the same thing on various forums.. but only about inj. pump repair.
& its obvious from the first MINUTE that the person dong the video has NO CLUE on how to repair an inj. pump..
WHY would u show yourself doing something that's obviously WRONG.?? & want people to follow your lead..??
It ASTOUNDS ME..
I've heard it said that.. the people making the videos just like to hear themselves talk..??
That's not to say that there ARE very helpful videos online.. its just the ones on inj. pumps ARE BAD..
You wouldn't believe the calls & emails I get from folks saying>> "I watched that vid. on utube from Bundy Bear & now my tractor wont start, can u help me??".. lol

I agree. You know the video is fishy when they have disabled comments below, so the mistakes can't be pointed out.
There's an old saying, give them a light and they'll follow it anywhere...

Actually money is paid from views, not subscribers. However it is reasonable to believe that in most cases the more subscribers you have the more views you get. The exception is “viral” videos...or those that get circulated rapidly on the internet via other methods and have thousands/millions of views.

It does take a great deal of time to edit the videos after the footage is taken, and to stage the scenes. In addition video equipment is also expensive.

As far as real money...Youtube has become a haven for product placement advertising. Creators get free tools to “review” or are paid for using them in so many videos over time. These things behind the scenes are what worry me the most. Of course the Creator will try and stay unbiased........but when you are getting paid for it you just cant say a bunch of negative stuff about a product. Perhaps you can just not review that product at all and refuse.

To me it is shaky ground...but almost everyone has a goal of getting viewers, getting advertisers, getting paid. I do watch it a bunch...but have no illusions about the content or what is happening behind the scenes.

For quite a while advertisers on Youtube had no real control of how their money was spent or when videos showed (kind of like google web search ads). However in recent years it was exposed that ads were showing on what videos that advertisers found extremely inappropriate (kids toys on some **** videos or what have you) and they took all of their money out. Youtube was forced to drastically remodel the advertising methodology...and I think the good Creators took a big hit to income. Hence the product advertising contracts with individual companies came to be....and is now the norm.

It really depends on the person. Being able to upload a video is a very new thing. There are people who want to use it as a revenue stream, through ads and sponsor spots. There are others who find filming and editing a fun hobby but who could never do it as an actual job. Others genuinely want to share their experiences with you, and video is the best format to do so.

Each channel will be a combination of the above along with likely personal motivations. It doesn't take that much time to do a simple cut together video. Just watching a handful of a channel's content will tell you a lot about why they make videos.

I think the question is what is the motivation to put the time, effort and expense into making videos to post on You Tube. like others have said, there is some financial return if you have enough followers and people watching your video's, but I don't think there is enough of that to justify all the effort so many put into making the videos. I personally have posted a few just to be able to share them with others. My favorite is of my wife shooting a wild hog on our land.

The main reason I think people post video's is the same as why they went on Jerry Springer. It was to be discovered. They use You Tube as a way to get their faces out there with the hope that somebody on TV notices them and puts them on a TV show. Where do those people on HGTV come from? What about all the car shows? One of our favorite TV shows is American Ninja, and a huge number of the people on the show also have You Tube channels. Same thing with the Voice and America's Got Talent. The producers find them on You Tube.

Even the big news networks are calling in You Tube people to be on their shows. It's become a stepping stone to promote yourself.

I'm one of 'those' guys. I have made a few videos to show others a DIY that I thought was useful or interesting. I have watched many DIY videos over the years and I appreciate the effort they put into it. Maybe some do it for vanity, but I decided I had something to contribute and am paying it forward. I didn't start doing them with the idea of making money and haven't to date and no plans to drive it in that direction. If I don't do another video, I'm totally fine with that.

I can see how some could get obsessed and try to make some decent coin doing it... I say good for them!

It is nice to see how others approach DIY tasks vs. watching a TV DIY show where the subject isn't exactly on what I am interested.

Also one truly learns by doing. Making/posting a decent video is a challenge and is kind of fun. I surely don't try to make a video out of each project I undertake because it does require some thought, discipline, and a lot more time than just gettin' er done!

I think that is a very small percentage of youtubers. I'm sure some have hopes of being noticed and getting a big TV break but for the vast majority of them they just want to be heard. YouTube gives the average joe the ability to spew their self proclaimed "expertise" to millions

Being a famous entertainer nowadays doesn't mean you have a sitcom. PewDiePie & Logan Paul have more fans than the whole cast of the biggest prime time TV show......I only know those names because of my kids

The answer is simple and has already been answered...people like to express themselves...The same reason people post on message boards...not everyone is an exhibitionist not everyone is seeking fame...

If a picture is worth a thousand words...a video is worth...?

My son is producing his 3rd utube video, he does them for fun. His are kids train videos, like thomas the tank engine. He creates the scenery, writes the script, records the clips for the scenes, records the audio clips (the whole family has voice parts), then he does all the video / audio editing, including music credits.

Because of his video making, one of his professors had him make a tutorial for video editing. It also got him a job as a sports producer for the college tv station.

How different is it than posting a thread on TBN? OK, YT is visual instead of (implied) verbal. But really how different is it?

Granted, a lot of posts on TBN are more Questioning than Observations, but there are PLENTY of "observations" as well. I won't embarrass anyone one by mentioning names, but it don't take long to find 'em.
