Yeah think I will rent a saw at some point and straighten out the edges.

No need to rent a saw to cut completely through slab. Install masonary blade set to cut 1"to 2" in your hand held power saw. Save's wear on blade,cut's faster and eliminate's cloud of dust if you trickle water on blade while cutting. Square up edges with cut then chip off with chisel. At that point,you can repour/paver original section or simply set form against 2 rough edges and fill void. Hope that make's sense.

The risers for the septic tank will need to be tackled on another day but I am going to do it... either myself or the same guy. I asked him to quote it. Looks like it will take one 12in riser and one about 30in riser.
Need to do some research on riser options. I want to be able to drive over it with my tractor if possible.

Gonna require special provisions to support wheeled traffic. Even if riser and lid are indestructible,weight of vehicle will transfer to septic tank lid.

When you replace pour concrete around the coupling after you cinch it up. I always use long radius ells, Ys and combo Ys and 22.5 degree ells where ever I can. Our house is the same vintage and having the same kind of problems.

I opened it up and took a look when I got home... he was done but cleaning up. That was his plan but because of geometry and space constraints he put in a Tee but since the runs to either end aren't too long, it should be fine. He was able to glue instead of using stainless hose clamps that were used on the original install.

Just amazing how this root could find the only source of water in a very well covered area along the foundation. The house overhangs the covered patio where it is at. But... and this might be a big reason... there is an outdoor faucet very close by on the wall. Wondering if that Sequoia is so smart to see the faucet above ground and send feelers! :laughing: Then when the scouts got there, they found that rubber coupling and started mining and struck water and better yet, lots of nutrients!

Thanks, jaxs. Good idea. I have a 7 1/4in Makita worm drive. I could put a masonry blade on it and get'er done.

My BX isn't too heavy and I would try to avoid it as most of the time I would be straddling it but might roll a front wheel over it. Just don't want something wimpy.

P.S. jaxs is the name/spelling of my son's dog, a pure bred Boxer. Care to elaborate on your handle?

I have never heard of anyone putting something on top of septic or line, other than grass. Usually they are off to the side.

In my idea paving or patio on top of septic is a poor idea. Tell your wife no.

Why do you say that? I have been married to my first and only wife for 46 years. I agree with what Dragoneggs said. "No" is not a word that encourages partnership in any kind of endeavour.

On the topic, I use copper sulfate every year in septic systems with plenty of trees all around, never a problem.

My dad's house had a PVC (3" or 4") that was crushed and cracked by a root. It was 5' deep, and the pipe was collapsed approximately half way eventually cracking and letting the roots invade. The best part was within inches of the damage was the original brand name still visible on the pipe. It said "Root-Proof". I wish I took a picture of it.

Had a water line from the meter to the house that ran near a sweetgum tree. That tree root grew over the line and eventually put enough pressure on top of it that the pipe cracked on the bottom. Slow leak that just kept the ground damp. It was a rent house so I didn稚 see any increase in water because I wasn稚 paying the bill. Hardest part fixing it was cutting out the tree root.

Not following you, zerk. Don’t know when the patio was put in. Who knows if they knew they were covering the line to the tank. No indications. The tank is not paved over just part of the line from the house to it.

On telling the wife ‘no’. I have no idea what you are talking about! Please explain.
