The joys of septic tanks

Could still cut out around hole fill and do pavers so if and when you need to open it back up would make it much easier

hmm. i'll have to remember the rubber connector on mine from Cast iron to Pvc. did the root go through the rubber or in between the rubber and pipe? My connector has a sleeve of stainless over the whole thing.

Yeah think I will rent a saw at some point and straighten out the edges.

I am in PA right now or I would come over and commiserate with you and a six pack. I will be back next week though. I want to see your rear remote set up anyway.

Ron
Ron, you definitely welcome to come over! Lots of travel for me until mid April. Probably the earliest I will get back with the Top n Tilt project. I will follow up with you.

Amazingly the root was pretty small but hairy. I didn't get to see the inside of the old pipe section. I had to run to an appt. New straight vertical clean out and cap installed.

The risers for the septic tank will need to be tackled on another day but I am going to do it... either myself or the same guy. I asked him to quote it. Looks like it will take one 12in riser and one about 30in riser as the cement rectangular cover is 28in long side length. Depth of the tank top to grade (level with patio) is also 28in. Note the two tires that are sitting on top of the clean out and the cement cover sat on those.

Need to do some research on riser options. I want to be able to drive over it with my tractor if possible.

Okay. Another discovery. Found the root. Ran along the foundation wall. Penetrated the connection from black ABS to the PVC pipe connected with a rubber sleeve.

House built in 1986. I知 not the original owner so I seem to learn something about it痴 construction whenever I get into a project. Note the sharp turn the drain takes after exiting the house and turns to the septic tank.

When you replace pour concrete around the coupling after you cinch it up. I always use long radius ells, Ys and combo Ys and 22.5 degree ells where ever I can. Our house is the same vintage and having the same kind of problems.

Since my septic run is under my parking area (real deep) I have pavers above the access for our mandated bi annual pumping.
Sure wish I could however have a plastic screw on lid as it is a PIA to lift the pavers and re settle them but unfortunately it is not an option for me.

One plus was when we installed I was able to have the tank lower than the lower level thus avoiding a pump to evacuate the lower facilities.
However no matter what I still needed to pump uphill to the field but that was actually a benefit as it reduced me to but one pump.

NB;I'm on hilly property with absolutely no possibilities of natural down hill flows (unless I flowed to the neighbors property)

Actually my septic guy did recommend that treatment for future preventive maintenance going forward. Thanks, will check it out online vs. local.
