I could never understand why somebody will spend thousands of dollars on their boat, snowsleds, ATVs or other toys; then not tie them down adequately. Even more amazing is how often people don't even know how to tie a basic knot in a rope; and/or rely on a half worn, cheap ratchet tie down.

My son is an engineer for BNSF. His biggest fear is hitting a person or vehicle, resulting in someone dying.

We saw these on our honeymoon trip to British Columbia in 1973.

I think the trucks were 12 ft wide. The one in the stock photo below looks even wider with outriggers. On upper Victoria Island (BC) these ran on MacMillan Bloedel's separate road network - well maintained haul roads posted Keep Out. Meanwhile the domestic road network was parallel, narrow, more primitive.

I also saw a semi tractor similar, as I recall even bigger, at a shop in Maracaibo Venezuela parked for maintenance in 1967. I was told it had come in from the nearby oilfields, for engine work. In those days Venezuela's oil production ran on imported Texan oilfield expertise.
