True Randy but, if the ballast is left connected / energized you won't realize energy reduction benefit of LEDs.

I'm told the Costco replacement tubes are Plug &Play but, also come with instructions for disconnecting the ballast??

I don’t know Rick. I found this.
¨one successful application
One example of the successful implementation of plug-and-play lamps was realized at an Allstate Insurance office space in Wellington, FL. This facility achieved a noticeable improvement in light quality and realized a 44% energy savings when it upgraded from 4-ft fluorescent tubes to Philips LED T8 InstantFit lamps. LED Source provided the upgrade of 41 tubes utilized in a mix of two-, three-, and four-lamp luminaires.

I understand that but, do they have option / instructions to eliminate the ballast and it's energy consumption?
Somewhere on tbn i posted load readings using t12 tubes vs the led tubes, with ballast.

PJSprog;

After I got the cast off my leg (1958) I scored a paper route. I delivered papers year round on my bicycle, even in the snow. It gets real tricky riding in the snow with 34 full sized newspapers sitting right on the front axle, especially when the rider (me) only weighed about 70 lbs.

34ーF, sunny, with a frost on grass and pastures. Forecast is for 67ーF this afternoon. No rain in forecast for a few days so we'll hopefully start drying out a bit.

My plan today WAS a trip to Costco, in Katy, to take advantage of the 48" LED replacement tubes that Ron advised us on. It's 70 miles one way so, I checked Costco web site this morning to see if the site can confirm stock in the Katy Store. Now ..... those replacement tubes don't show up on Costco site, in 12 pack or 4 pack, for any price? PRODUCT NOT FOUND. Oh well.

Now I have to see what to fill those three hours, over and back, with?

I'm curious, to those who've purchased these retrofit tubes, whether you just installed the replacement tubes or actually disconnected the existing ballasts? It seems to me, that just plugging in the tubes would get you the LED benefit of Fast on but ..... if you don't disconnect / remove the exiting ballast, you not getting the energy reduction benefit?

Happy "Hump Day" to everyone! I'm glad Geico brought back their HD commercial.

Prayers to all.

Most LED lights need their own drivers, some can be built in, others are separate. There is no need for ballasts on LED's. It's a new world when it comes to lighting today.

I just pulled the tubes and stuck in the FEIT LEDs on mine. I can confirm the fast on and much improved brightness, but I didn't do any before and after comparisons on power consumption with the ballasts still in there. I suppose the other liability is that if the ballast quits, you need to replace it with another ballast? Clearly, you should do summore research for us, Rick!:laughing:
