The Incredible Shrinking Package

Anyone notice that the toilet paper rolls are getting shorter, just look at all the extra space on the sides of the roll when you put it in your holder. :confused3:

I could be unkind and say it's not the paper getting smaller.......

Has anybody noticed that some packages appear to be the same size and fit ion the same places on your shelves, but suddenly have odd sized detents in the bottom? They want the containers to appear full and seem the same size, so they push the bottom up another inch inside to reduce to volume.

I got some coffee that was something like 29.5 ounces though the blowmolded package looked the same as the 36 ounce cans next to it from the front. Then you saw the back half pushed in for a grab handle.

Dishwasher detergent is another example of that.
Cheese used to be in 1lb, 454G blocks, now it's 400G.
All this talk is getting me PO'd LOL........Mike

Hershey's brainstorm "Air Delights". Same bag size/count/price as regular kisses, but pkg weight is 12 oz instead of the 16 oz of the original kind. To me that's 25% less chocolate for the same price. Maybe butter is next, and we'll get four 3 oz sticks of 'easy spread' for the traditional price of a pound of the old 'hard stuff'. Here's another one for you, air infused drywall, now 20-30% lighter, AKA now contains 20-30% less gyproc, bet the price doesn't reflect any savings in $$$$$............Mike

And if you do much cooking, using published recipes . . .! A recipe will call for a pint of something, and any of that you buy is 14 or 15 oz. instead of 16 oz. The packages you buy are never the same measurement as your recipe.

I'm sure the Little Ceasers (chain) Hot-N-Ready (Mediuam) Pizza I got yesterday, is smaller than ever. I ate all of it before getting half way home.:licking:

Maybe, I'm just getting BIGGER!

THAT was my next stop, embarrassed to admit. When I ran out of PIZZA.

Most cereal boxes are now only about half full when you buy them. In a few more years, they will be empty and we will be eating cardboard for breakfast. At least we will be getting lots of fibre.

Most people do not check cost per unit. My fiancé is one of them. I have been doing it all my life...keeps the brain active and can save a few pennies here and there.

Occasionally, the smaller package is less than the "economy size"!! Go figure....but most do not.

Reminds me of a story my brother tells. Many years ago he worked in a grocery store. By some mistake the store received a large quantity of cheese. The normal price was $.50 per package. The manager was going to send it back, but before he could my brother had put up a sign "Manager's special--2 for $1." They sold out quickly.

The potato chip guys were pretty slick when they did away with the see-through bags so you can't see that their only half full now.

My wife bought a bag of cookies, there were 6 cookies in a good size bag....

That's what she said...

Then there are the packages that boldly proclaim 'New and Improved!' but don't say how. Maybe it's just the package instead of the product?

Lots of beers are served in what look to be pint glasses, but they have a thicker base, thicker walls, and are slightly shorter - 14oz. Order a pint, they won't correct you, but won't bring a pint...

That's another one. Grocery store ads will show things 3 for $2, or 3 for $5. I'm kind of stupid, so it can take me a while to figure out what each item costs.

Then you see 3 for $1, but when they ring up, it's .33, .33 and .34 on the receipt. Which one of the three identical items cost the extra penny? Why not just price them all at .35 and be done with it? I'm all for abolishing the penny anyways.

Now that has to be at least partially correct. I'm old enough to remember when busted packages on the shelves in the stores were not unusual, and you had to be careful to get home with your packages without having any of them break. How often do you see broken packaging in a store now-a-days? We definitely have "new and improved" packaging; some so good, I have trouble opening them.
