My truck is like yours too (no step). I do like the bumper corner step as it is simple, cheap, and out of the way. I would assume that the new GMC multi-gate will never be available on a W/T anyways...

What if you needed to load half a tractor and then dump it off and bounce across the tailgate? Most pickups are already luxury vehicles and will never see a days work ( and the owners probably don’t either ) but this is a really pitiful excuse for something that’s supposed to haul things.

Nobody has any business putting that kind of weight in a pickup, anyways. Most people who haul what you do aren't using pickups anyways, as they aren't the proper tool for the job.

I don’t disagree I need a heavier duty duty truck but my dually was perfectly adequate for that load.

Pulling something on flat ground on wheels isn稚 even a very impressive feat. If you have the air brakes unlocked you could pull a Fedex trailer on a dolly with a Prius. I don稚 guess the brand of trailer makes any difference but those trailers are frequently on dollies. I致e pushed several thousand pounds on rollers by myself by hand. This one takes some leverage advantage because I can稚 do it by myself straight up but I can move my 12,000 pound forklift with no engine powered tools. I don稚 know how much rolling resistance a loaded semi would have but I壇 bet you could easily pull 2 or 3 on flat and hard ground and all brakes open with a pickup.

In real life I've seen a pickup drag a dead tractor trailer out, no doubt they released the air brakes though and didn't go very far with it.

I will bet that you have pushed more than several thousand pounds... how often have you had to move a dead pickup and simply opened the door and moved it, pushing against the door frame.

There is a bunch of videos out there. The def fluid fill is now next to the fuel fill and the tank doesn't limit ground clearance anymore. They have the new tailgate and the dash view that sees behind the item your towing.

I remember when truck commercials were honest, common sense commercials, focusing on the simple functionality of the truck. There was no shuttle pulling, ship pulling ridiculousness. I guess marketing firms feel as trucks get more fancy, they need to jazz up the commercials. Under all that tech and pretty chrome still lies the worlds simplest vehicle-a pickup truck. Maybe I am old fashioned, but give me a stick shift, rubber floors, a good radio and heat and ac. A 15-20k tow capacity is good for me with a good payload. Those trucks just aren’t made anymore.

With all due respect, tow and payload capacities have improved vastly over the years. Aside from the specs, look at the difference in iron in the frame of a 2019 Sierra 1500 vs that same truck 30 years ago. It's heavier than even an '87 ton truck. Breaking frames used to be business as usual, not from overloading but from pounding down the gravel roads we work on at faster miles per hour.

Go to the city mall parking lot. Look how many pickups are there that don't even have a rock chip. Or how many have some form of stupid bed cover. And look at how many are HD diesels.

That's the market commercials are targeting. Real people, not actors.

You could buy one in "18" but the stick shift is now gone for "19", you can still get the rest though.

Everyone says you can't buy a new work truck, but you can if you really want to, I did a few months ago...

The manufacturers have to target one type of people.....the ones that buy. Normally I buy the option-less ones that sit on the lot waiting for a contractor or me to buy. I'm content with what I have and when it gets beat up a bit, it's not the end of the world.

Yep. I actually appreciate the mall cruisers. They provide used trucks with 100K miles in perfect condition for 30-40% of new cost.

Because I'd had to pull really heavy loads with a gas-engine 1 ton. Torque moves big loads and 900 ft lbs beats 500 ft lbs every time. So does 12-13 mpg compared to 6-7. Been there, done that.

You are out there on the road 5 days a week hauling 20,000lbs 500 miles a day.
Btw your diesel numbers are high and the gas numbers are low .

I don't think my 39 foot RV or my 16-foot dump trailer would be happy behind a gasser.

The cost of fuel varies around the country. By me, diesel is higher in the winter due to the home heating oil demands but typically less than gasoline in the summer.
