Pihrana Bar works GREAT!

I need to put in some retaining walls. Did you tie the courses back into the hill with fabric? I was considering a concrete foundation, but aside from cost, could that actually make problems?

A tooth bar is next on my list of things to get for my tractor!
Honestly, I don't know how folks live without teeth on their bucket. I dig like crazy with my PTB.

At four foot height, no need to tie back with fabric. At least code around here. I cheated a bit on code with these Allen blocks... I am about 5ft high. Super-heavy block at 88lb each and designed for auto 6deg set back and lots of drainage. No issues at all after years in service. Don't know that I would do the same height with a lighter block that didn't index the set back going over 4ft. But I do know I have quite a bit of water (underground springs) putting hydraulic pressure on the wall with no issues at all.

If I went with walls 4ft or less, I would probably go with block that is about half the weight and price and save my back!

Thanks. I will look into those blocks. Seems like a good idea that they are hollow. I have seen too many walls being pushed over, so am a bit leary. Too old to be doing things twice!

The piranha bar looks and sounds great; my indecision is based on where I live. It is the Ozarks hills in southern Missouri and the rocks are everywhere. Would the landscaping that I am doing be better done with a toothed bar where the projection is probably double that of the piranha?View attachment 567035View attachment 567035

I use both a Piranha bar and a traditional tooth bar (a Tisco). The Piranha is plenty durable, and is more versatile because of its ability when clearing brush and when fine grading and back-dragging. Also better for moving snow. But for a lot of serious digging in hardpan or rocky dirt, or in handling No. 3 construction stone and larger, the traditional tooth bar will give you faster and easier penetration. The serrated design of the PTB spreads the point loads over more surface area of the leading edge.

Probably not available in Canada.

I like the hollow blocks... and yeah the Allenblocks probably are a fortune to get to you but there must be something similar near you.

Check out my old thread on my retaining wall build if you want to see how I did mine with use of my BX. Came up with a way to add crushed rock just behind the wall for best drainage.

My Lady friend got me a little retaining wall stone from one of her Condos she manages, that wasn't installed right and falling over. I just had to pay for trucking. Man, I need to get off my azz and do something with it.
