Will be first time taking tractor down through the bottom and across the creek in many months. Ground still too soft, but hopefully frozen this morning, and more raining is coming.
..........................
Been there done that thinking ground firm enough during December months, end up cost $$$'s get pull out and butt chewing from the bride, now double think about it just go for tractor ride. ;)

Yup, ground may be firm when you go across, then warm up and be a mudpit when you come back.

Now Thomas you've just added to my existing tractor ride itch...

Around 22 this AM. Mid-40's expected. Ground needs to dry up still. It was record setting year for rain. My fields took a prolonged beating and the hay yields were sub-standard to say the least. I for one am happy to see 2018 gone in a few days. It has been the most stressful time of my life.

I get to go out today and take another look at my last project. The run-in that I was working on over the summer, lost part of it's roof just a few days ago. Around Christmas. Of course! Wife is also calling insurance. Seems a micro-burst hit and managed a straight line through trees, to the run-in, to trees again. The middle part of the roof, a 12 foot section, managed to lift off the support beams in the back and flopped, sideways, over another section by a foot or so. All the screws that were in the rafters, attached to the beams, just ripped out. You could not cut them out any finer if you tried.

I was outside as the storm approached, and yes, it was viscous. Another shed by the house had it's roof panels go too. Not too concerned about that one since no animals were/are around it.

Such is life on the farm.... always something to do or revisit. I hope the New Year brings some relief. I just want to watch grass grow at a reasonable rate and not do anything else. LOL.

Have a good day all.

I find myself unusually happy over getting a new Workmate for Christmas, to replace the one my late wife got me in 1981, and was lost in last year’s fire.

22 early, up to 33 now, might reach 48 later. Big rain and wind again this Friday, 1-2 inches expected.

Still sporadically tractor shopping, but no serious options lately.

Drew, i was expecting your electric story to be one of those fraud calls. Dont think they cut your service here if you are late one time, but i never tested it. I did miss a cell phone payment once because i never got the bill.

33F, sunny. Not going to work, but did check in online.

33°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 52° today. 60-ish with some rain tomorrow, then back into the 30s by Friday.

Hope everyone who celebrates had a wonderful holiday. We spent Christmas eve with The Wife's aunt in Granite City where her father's side of the family gathers every year. Always a good time. Delicious food, and entire too much of it, followed by gifts and many hours of entertaining conversations. There were some gifts her aunt wrapped in glitter paper, and even today I am still finding glitter attached to my person . We got back home just before midnight. Up early Christmas day for our traditional brunch. I picked up her brother and brought him to our house while she prepared the meal. The boy and his roommate came over, and the boy's girlfriend even made a rare appearance later. We opened presents after eating, then pretty much vegged the rest of the day watching movies and nibbling on an array of snacks and some fantastic potato soup The Wife made. 'Twas a nice weekend at The Smith house.

Back at work today for the rest of the week, then another four day weekend. Wife says she's going to put her brother to work a bit before taking him back home later today. Almost sorry I'm going to miss that.

Good morning to all! Up at 6:30 this morning, felt 'warm' to what I was expecting. 30 minutes later, the temp dropped 11 degrees and it was snowing. Light dusting so far.

It's nice to hear everyone's Christmas stories and glad everyone had a peaceful day.

Family is going to be heading out back home today...have to make sure they don't forget some of their stuff like they usually do....

Need to make some calls this morning, so I better get to it. Hope everyone has a great day. Prayers sent.

Good Morning Everyone!!!

I agree about the relaxed, + energy here yesterday.:D

The tri tip roast as well as the rosemary encrusted baked potatoes came our really nicely. The leftover beef will be transformed into "Beef On Weck (kummelweck)." Apparently a regional dish from the Buffalo, NY region unknown elsewhere in the near future.

A clear 16ºF start to the morning, a couple of snowflakes continue to float around; gifts from either Lake Erie or Ontario probably both. Some upper level light haze, but sunny and 29ºF presently; 30ºF is my anticipated high today. I see a snow to mixed precipitation to all rain back to mixed precipitation Starting Thursday PM and hopefully gone by Saturday. I need to take it easy today and rest my ribcage due to possible fall related injuries sustained a couple of days ago.

Bill- A happy Boxing Day to you.

Billy- Be careful driving through your "wet lands." I still have running and standing water everywhere. I have frozen ground and unfrozen ground depending on the water saturation. My little old Ford 1100 taught me that R-1's will rut ground surface badly and move forward much better than in reverse in the muck. I had a Danforth anchor and a come-a-long always available to pull me out of where and what I got myself into.

"Been there done that thinking ground firm enough during December months, end up cost $$$'s get pull out and butt chewing from the bride, now double think about it just go for tractor ride. ?" Thomas Your decision as well as mine seem to be a common mistake made during the learning curve. I was lucky to have owned a rider mower sized tractor.

Yup, ground may be firm when you go across, then warm up and be a mudpit when you come back.? Newbury.

Mike- Nice to see you post. I truly hope that insurance covers most of your losses and that 2019 is better in all ways from 2018. It's always better to talk down to the grass rather than up.;)

"... 'Twas a nice weekend at The Smith house.?"- PJS It reads like you had a "full plate" of visits and good eats. I am happy to read that things everywhere went well.

I am happy that those who posted had a great Holiday with family and friends, and I hope that those who have not yet posted had similar + experiences.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.
