Anybody Remember Back When?

Yeah, you're right. I'll never forget putting 14.5 gallons in a tank that the book says only holds something like 13.5...and the tank wasn't completely empty.

I don't remember the numbers but I was caught with low fuel in Montana, middle of the night. Needle bouncing on empty and I was down to shutting off and coasting down the hills until I finally made it to the next town. 52 ford. I put in more than the tank size said.

I know because we had to learn several of those government agency abbreviations for a history test in the 60's. Were they part of the New Deal?

They were government programs to help people survive the depression...at least the CCC was, head of household could get a paying job there.

I put 13 gallons in each of two 12 gallon tanks once. It was an airplane! With a student AND and instructor!!!

This was after they were out flying around for an hour or so!

You guys have me beat... the cheapest I every bought was 24.9 cents in Oakland... other stations were more expensive but offered up to 10x trading stamps... plus... Mom still has a collection of Shell Steak Knives and a few Shell No Pest Strips somewhere.

My low was 11 cents in Tx, gas war 1956.

I remember seeing it for .29, but the lowest I paid was probably mid .40s and up. It was about .50-.55 in 1977. I remember that. Three friends and I were going to the beach. I liked going to a station where it was .55. My friends wanted me to go where it was .50 down the street. We took 10 gallons @.55, and they were adamant that they weren't doing to help pay for the extra .50 cents had we bought it at the station that was selling it for .50. So there we were, 4 guys arguing over splitting 50 cents. That's 12.5 cents per person. In 1977.

When I was in high school, in the mid '50's, gasoline was in the low 20's there in my small home town. lowest I ever saw it was about 18.5 during a gas war, in Fairview Oklahoma circa. 1955.

Now-a-days - - local gas station reduces the price, 4 cents per gallon, and advertises as "gas price war". I just wish they weren't so cheap and move up one grade on their restroom toilet paper. Up one grade from waxed, single ply.........
