Thanks for the positive thoughts. Today was rough, old habits are hard to break. His mate has been smelling for him all day...time will heal

My dirty dog laying in the garage, this was before her bath. Yesterday it was 60 degrees here, a freak warm day. So we scrubbed her up and brushed her out. Now she's cleaned up for winter. This dog despises water and baths, so we don't bathe her so that often. 20181201_202604.jpeg

We were blessed with the arrival of a great-granddaughter a couple of days ago. That's her Grandma (our daughter) holding her. Grandson and girlfriend live with her and the dogs. The dogs have known something was up for months and instantly bonded with the baby.

Fate, the female, has pretty much adopted Izzy (Izalea Lynn) as her charge.

Pity the fool that raises a hand to her!

Even better, they're only about a half-hour away so we can go visit any time.

Congrats. That kid has more hair than I do!

My Lab loves water but hates baths; I took him to one of those "dog washes" and he put the brakes on as soon as we got to the door. Moving a 90 lb dog who doesn't want to go is like trying to drag your pickup. There was a woman waiting for her BF to finish washing his truck and she was laughing her butt off. Finally she came over and between the two of us we got him through the door and into the tub. Of course the first thing that he does after a bath is look for something smelly to roll in, oh well.

I don't know why, but Angel even resists going out in rain. She absolutely will not go into a creek, no way into a swimming pool and she fights for her life against a bath. It's as if water causes her physical pain? I've never had a lab or lab mix (Angel is a mix) that acted so wildly against any water.20181201_202541.jpeg

My last lab was the same way about baths. She would swim if there was open water next to the ice in spring time, loved to stand in an icy stream in the middle of February If I wanted a quick pit stop while travelling all that I had to do was find some water, she would go into it and relieve herself in no time. We travelled together for years, working in all sorts of weather and she thought nothing of swimming across a stream multiple times in April while I was trying to find a way to cross it- then she would have to cross one final time on the same log that I did. Yet a bath was anathema to her, and while she loved crashing through puddles she would daintily step around them on the rare occasions that she was on lead.

Angel doesn't like her feet touching water. No puddles, no streams, no creeks, no baths. Dry only.

We suspect that her abusive original dad used water as a punishment along with the severe beatings that left her ears hard and scarred up. Her Vet agrees that water was possibly used as a punishment and because of that she fears all water aside from what is in her drinking bowls.

Somebody needs to show her abusive previous owner how to treat a loyal pet. A little waterboarding maybe?

He was actually a local sheriff. His neighbor got a hold of me and had me come meet the guy and talk him in to giving up this baby girl to me. She's now my rescue dog because she rescued me.
