Good morning!!!!

22°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 32° today. It snowed most of the day yesterday, but we got zero accumulation from it. Ground is still too warm. It was still snowing last night at 7:30 when I went out to close up the chicken coop. More predicted for Thursday.

Did some digging into an old bass guitar preamp last night. It's a special model made by a company that closed some time in the '90s (Pearce Electronics BC-1 w/ Billy Sheehan modification). It was in a sealed road case in the basement of my last house when that basement flooded with 28" of water. The case was floating, and I thought no water got into it. Apparently, some water did get in. Looks like the preamp itself stayed dry, but the moisture in the road case caused everything to corrode. My multimeter probing told me there's scarcely a decent ground connection to be found in it ... which explains the ugly hum and weird LED activity when I turned it on last weekend for the first time since the flood, 5-1/2 years ago. So, I'm going to have to replace all of the fasteners and clean all the ground connections in the chassis and on the pc boards. Pearce didn't make a whole lot of these to begin with, and as the years pass, they are becoming like unicorn horns, especially the ones with the factory modification. On the bright side, the electronics all look good, so it's just mechanical stuff. I even had to drill out three stripped screws to get the top off. I'm wanting to use this for the new music project. It has a unique sound, combining a clean channel and a specially designed distortion channel. The only other way to get this sound is from another company's digital modeling unit (Line 6 Helix). Billy himself was trying to talk me into getting a new Helix a couple of months ago, but I'm not quite ready to shell out the $1000 for one just yet. Going to rebuild the old unit first. If that doesn't work, well ...

Ted, nice that you can still be your little girl's hero.

Eric, we have several levels of license plates here in The People's Republic of Illinois; regular, personalized, and vanity. The fees vary based on the type of vehicle and plate level. For a passenger car, regular issued plates are $101/year, personalized are $108/yr, and vanity are $114/yr. For motorcycles, regular is $41/yr, personalized is $48/yr, and vanity is $54/yr. Vanity plates are all letters, and personalized are any letters with numbers at the end. I have the same "MUSIK 1" plate on my car and my Honda Goldwing. I've had that plate since 1994. And for those wondering, The Wife's plate is "Love My Boys."

RNG, I took a little nibble all right...
The rear tires are at a level right at the top of my head. Trelleborg radials R1.
I felt somewhat dwarfed, will need to relearn all my clearances.
Air ride seat was just a big aaahhhhhhh. Which it should be, plus the big radials,
hoping for a lot less shocks to my neck.

some pretty colors out, last of Carolina Rose (a type of hibiscus) and the birds are enjoying a multi event feast out there right now.
I watched a whole flock of birds smack around inside the two large dogwoods out front, loaded with red berries, and it was chow time.
Leaves were flying off, like a school of fish in a frenzy.

found a beer can half way up my driveway. That tells me those three inches came down very quickly late last night,
flooded the street drains back up into my property's drains and floated a nice little gift to me.
It's exercise time before the next rain in a few hours
so i'm off to shovel out ditch drains clogged with pine needles and who knows what else.

Wish I could send this rain to California. Seems the whole state has water problems

About 10 a.m. a FedEx truck went by, but didn't even slow down so I have no idea whether that was the truck that is "supposed" to have my shipment.

Quick, follow it!

I have seen as many as 6 FedEx trucks on my road one day. Some times passing each other. Very inefficient delivery service. UPS maybe 2. One in the morning and 1 afternoon.

And at 11:35 a.m., I got an automated phone call from FedEx that my package was available for pickup at a Walgreen's Pharmacy about 4 miles from home. There's both a Walmart AND a Walgreen's no less than 2 miles from home. Anyway, I went and got the package, but I'll do my best to avoid having anything to do with FedEx in the future.

Drew, that is a nice tractor, but man it’s big! I couldn’t use it around most of the rear property here, couldn’t get around the trees.

I live about a mile from the FedEx office at the airport, I see 25-30 trucks a day. I have less trouble with Fedex and UPS, than when they do that saver deal and let the USPS do the final delivery.

I would expect that FedEx, as with many, if not most, companies and organizations, has both good and bad employees. And of course that includes the USPS. I can't said that I've ever entirely understood that deal where the USPS does the final delivery, but so far (maybe I should keep my fingers crossed?) I've had no problem with that final delivery.

I’m still waiting for my garage door opener I ordered 13 months ago. LOL It got to the post office, never to be seen again. I got refunded in December and got emails every month on the same date for six months telling me they had not found my package, but rest assured every effort was being extended. I got a laugh out of that every month.

"LS good rescue, good dad. Does your daughter have a 3 hour drive to work every day?"---quote

Kinda....she is doing double duty currently: she's still a charge nurse in the ED at a local hospital, doing night shift up in Colorado. She is also a certified family nurse practitioner, and is working a clinic here in NM. So....she normally drives down from Colorado early Monday morning, does a 12 hour shift, comes to stay at our house for the night, goes back to the clinic for a second 12 hour shift, then drives back home when she's done for the day. Every other week, she actually goes to the hospital doing a half shift (midnight to 06:00) when she's done at the clinic. Then does 3 more full night shifts each week. This week is that week.

She is trying to pay down her massive student loans (she has her BSN and 2 Masters, plus her CNP), plus raise her 3 kids...all by herself. Husband walked out about 3 years ago...she's become a tough cookie!

RNG, she actually knows better....years ago, she was a firefighter and always kept supplies of all kind (food, clothing, blankets, equip., etc.) in her vehicle. She got this jeep about 6 months ago...I guess she didn't think about it...until now. I bet it gets stocked this week...I will definitely remind her however.

We try to help her out any way we can....

Ed,
Volcano is quite quiet, haven ‘t heard of any activity.

Good evening all. 28F for the start, overcast and windy. Stayed windy most of the day backing off some early afternoon, sky cleared to partly cloudy and the "high temp" was 39F. This morning was devoted to cleaning lady prep and staying ahead of her. Worked on new route for Saturday, went for coldest ride of the season so far, fingers were cold half the time. No nap today :( Have some outside projects later this week.
USPS have the most difficulties here, 4 streets differ only by east or west or north or south may have something to do with it.
Drew nice tractor, great view :)
LS that is quite a story on your daughter. Simply awesome , what she is trying to do.
PJ, good luck with your guitar project!!.
Prayers for all.

FedEx -USPS combo, believe they call it Smart Post. I try my best to avoid. Good tracking across the mainland, tends to die in Ca. Sometimes vacations a week to 10 days in Honolulu. The sad part is companies that don’t say that is the service until after it ships. I tend to follow up with an irritated email.

Good morning all, 37 going to 43 and partly sunny. 20-90% chance of wintery mix tonight. Guess it is time to get the blower out and make sure it is ready. Meeting today and then....??

Have a great day, prayers sent. Ed

2 and going to a high of 18F. Wind WNW 14 mph. Mainly sunny but a tad chilly.

WOW! That 3" kitchen drain pipe was plugged solid with grease and crud for about 20'. We replaced a 20' section AND put a clean out T in the line as well. That should make it good for another 24 years.

Next project, ummm I don't think I have another project except to keep the driveway open until spring. This is a good thing. Now I can get on with saving energy. Mine.

Have a good day all

40 going to 47. Sleet and heavy rain tonight.

Got a call from the nicest Medicare lady in Boston yesterday. She said my first name is misspelled in the Social Security system and they can't process my Medicare application until I go down to SS in person and show my driver's license to change my name. I think that means downtown Richmond so I'll wait until my wife gets home from NC and try to make a small day trip of it, maybe take in a museum and restaurant, or at least a local coffee roaster.

Prayers for all

much cooler 46 today and pretty much staying that temperature.
Flash flood warnings now posted for tonight and tomorrow, lot of rain coming in.
Good thing I cleaned out the street drains again but another big storm will bring more junk
down the street into my culvert, often lodging in the front.

feed store gave me wrong fertilizer yesterday, yes it was 15-0-15 but uh guys you gave me
centipede weed and feed. I do not want herbicides on top of my fruit tree roots.
I don't think they have alternatives but I see that Tractor Supply has 12-0-12 so that will work too.
This was the second time the same helper put something in my pickup bed that wasn't right. Shame on me for not
double checking the second time. I saw the big white sticker with the numbers on it and went back to the hay loading.

I paid $7.25 for what I think is called a small bale of coastal hay. Since I bought 20, I asked if they could knock a quarter off.
No, our margin is only about 90 cents a bale. Ok...
That means he's paying someone close to six dollars a bale for hay. Sure smelled nice, just like a barn.

I bet it would take a lot of bales of hay to make any money though...I almost started doing that when I bought this place but my oldest
brother told me absolutely not unless I wanted to feed my own animals, not enough acres to make any money. He knew from experience trying to do it himself, the numbers just didn't work.

hope you all have a nice day.
