es6500 honda auto throttle broken

Hello, We purchased a used honda generator model es6500 and once started, the engine always runs at high rpm. It appears that the auto throttle feature isn't working. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this feature or how it works ? We're at a complete loss and at this point it seems as though we've be taken to the cleaners. We believed the seller when he told us that the unit had been sitting in his garage for years as it looks almost brand new. The fuel was old and the air and oil filters matched his story, so I really question that maybe it' us that may be missing something. Any advice or experience regarding this fiasco we have put ourselves into would be greatly appreciated.

Is the auto throttle switch on the front panel in the auto position? If not, auto throttle will not work.
If it is in auto then maybe a wire attached to the back of the switch vibrated off and you may need to take it to a service dealer for repair if you can't figure it out.

Or.... mice may have modified the wiring.....

Old fuel, sitting for years..... I'd throw a dose of Seafoam into the gas tank - may not fix this issue, but worth doing in general.....
