The XR4145H has been a tractor on my short list until today when I talked to a dealer. I want to be able to use a root grapple bucket, so I asked about getting a third function remote added. Was told that LS has an open hydraulic circuit so a “true” third function is not possible, only the diverter valve scenario. Can any one add to this or confirm. My goal is to be able to manipulate the claws with a switch on the loader control. Thanks

Your dealer is mistaken. There are several TBNers that have exactly what you are looking for. You can operate a 3rd function system with a diverter or a true 3rd function system, both should have the control switch-s in the control grip on the loader joystick. Nothing wrong with either system, both work, both have their own pluses and minuses.

Because most compact utility tractors have a relatively small GPM hydraulic pump, it is difficult to actually get all 3 loader functions to operate as one might want them to operate. But to say that it can't be done and that you have to use a diverter system is flat out WRONG.

Do some more research, go to a different dealer if need be, but you can most definitely get what you are wanting.

Thanks. I guess I won’t rule the LS out then.

haven't been around here much, can other members be 'tagged'? the everything attachments guy can tell you straight up yes or no (although if you scroll through the pictures only, and the EA grapple threads you'll see some with grapples) and he offers a 3rd function kit a few hundred cheaper than the LS kit....

Your grapple will only operate when you are not using the hydraulics to raise or curl. This is a matter of flow capacity. These small tractors only have so much fluid available at any one time. If this is what your dealer is referring to then they are vaguely right in a practical sense but this isn't a reason to go to a different model or brand of a similar size machine. It also isn't a reason to go to the more clunky diverter system. When I want to curl and open the grapple I press the switch while nearing the end of the curl. As soon as the curl is complete the opening starts. Many of the larger machines I have used are either just like this or almost like this. Some will start the second function in a very slow and limited fashion until the primary function is completed.
