Tractor
Kubota 3901
We bought a new 3901 last October. ( 4x4 with third function valve and got grappler & finishing mower as well as bucket). Husband was driving on a hill and rolled it and long story short, it's totaled. We have 10 months into it. KTAC insurance adjuster has been unpleasant to deal with (this particular rep, the Kubota dealership had the same experience as we did).

Insurance has given me two options:
1) They pay off the loan, we start all over with a new tractor. So in essence the 5K we've spent just vanishes. But..new tractor. I'm also not clear how it works with the attachments that we have that weren't damaged - grappler, finishing mover, etc. Do those stay with us?
(I've got a call in to KTAC to discuss that)

2) They give us a "comparable" tractor and we continue on with existing lease (5 year, 0% financing) but are responsible for deductible and "any difference in price." Problem is, we won't know what the difference is until they identify the replacement tractor. The dealer also strongly recommended against it as he said anything comparable with that few months would probably be a repro and not well taken care of.

Anyone have any sage advice for me on which you would do??

Point out what their website KTAC Insurance Agency - Default says. The user KTAC on here is a KTAC agent, manager, or something like that.

100% SALES PRICE PROTECTION

*

With the Total Loss Replacement Option, you receive the original sales price (including taxes and fees)* of your equipment (rather than a depreciated value) by replacing it after a total loss.

*

Conditions:

Insured equipment must be currently financed with Kubota Credit Corporation, U.S.A. (Kubota Credit).

For retail installment contracts that exceed 60 months, loss must occur within the first 60 months of the contract term.

Replacement equipment must be new and of like kind and quality from the original manufacturer and purchased from an authorized, approved dealer.

Replacement must be purchased within 60 days after the date of claim settlement, subject to model availability.

*Original sales price excludes ancillary products such as extended warranty. If you do not meet all conditions, a depreciated value will be determined for settlement.

Interesting - thank you!!!! It was very odd, the claims person didn't want to put things in writing - I asked her to email me as she called me while I was driving and I wanted to make sure I understood what our options were And she was really quite unpleasant when I asked her that and then never emailed me and hasn't returned my call to date. And the above is not at all what I understood so THANK YOU.

ETA - Just got a call from the manager at the company handling the claim for KTAC. Super fantastic, answered my questions and super pleasant. Apparently the Kubota dealer called and laid in to them. Another reason I am staying with Kubota - love our dealer!

That is great news! Glad things are getting worked out. Really like the part I quoted. That is the kind of dealer you want to stay with. You know they have your back. :)

How did he total the machine from rolling it?

Rac717...

I apologize for any poor service you have experienced. I am shocked someone within KTAC would handle one of our customers this way. Please email me directly (brian.carter@kubota.com) and I will personally get involved.

Thank you!

I take it from the tone of this thread that your husband survived the rollover and is uninjured. When I saw that statement, alarm bells went off. Not many operators survive a roll over (only 17%) unless they have ROPS up and seatbelt fastened. Please confirm that he is OK.

Brian - it actually wasn't KTAC itself - it was the claims processor used by KTAC (OIC is the company). But the VP got involved and was absolutely lovely to deal with and we got it resolved.

Thank you for responding - I will say that the dealer and you exemplify why we chose Kubota - GREAT customer service

Thankfully he was 100% fine. Credit to seatbelt, canopy and a very slow motion roll.

Do you have a picture of the tractor?

I don't actually - we had it loaded up and sent off to the dealer the day after, at that point we didn't realize the extent of the damage. We knew the grappler was toast and that it wouldn't start but didn't realize that it was going to be a write-off. I apologize I can't be more specific - I'm just the finance person in this ;)

First, I am happy to know no one was injured. Second, I am happy to know you were taken care of by the VP but it shouldn't have taken that much effort to get the service you deserved in the first place. My offer still stands... If you would like for me to address the service issue, I will be happy to do so. Otherwise, I will let it go and just be thankful no one was hurt.

Glad no one was hurt, why did they total it for a roll over, was there engine damage?

I’m guessing the loader was high in the air and it bent the arms and the engine ran dry of oil, but that’s purely speculation.

Have to say I've seen more engines hydrolock and bend/ brake internals before the effects of no oil come in. Either way I'm also curious about the turn of events with the accident, glad no one was hurt and ktac came through.

Must have been something serious like that to be totaled.

rac717 - FWIW I did a deep dive on OIC (the insurer) and they look like a very solid organization. Good financials, good reputation, been around ~62 years, even the employees there like it on Glassdoor. OTOH they are small - like 7 agent managers and ~25 subcontracted adjusters (circa 2016 when Ohio reviewed them), so I can see how the 'subs' may not always represent the insurance company well. Gaffes like this really shouldn't happen but between the VP, KTAC & your dealer it's pretty clear that all the serious forces are aligned in a very positive direction. Not sure about forum etiquette, but your dealership deserves a mention.
