That's probably either the L6060 or MX5800.

Ya L6060 is the biggest Grand, not as familiar with the MXes. But generally all CUTs with HSTs top out at 60hp or so. Beyond that you are generally looking at field machines where the 15% HP tax for a HST over a geared machine. The powershift & GST type transmissions take over in that market. 700hp dozers have HSTs, so it's not a matter of engineering or capability. Just a matter of efficiency, control & price for the target market.

Hmmm - - my 2009 M6040 has what Kubota calls an HST transmission(Hydraulic Shuttle trans). If this fits into what you are calling HST - - what about the 2009 M9540 with HST.

The M series tractors that you mention are hydraulic shuttle gear type transmissions, not hydrostats.

The first automatic I drove was a '60 Rambler American Station Wagon. Push button gear shift on the dash. :dance1:

The Buick Dynaflow, through very inefficient, was probably the first readily available automotive CVT sold in the US.

The first automatic I saw was the neighbor's 1951 Chevy, I didn't believe there was a car without a clutch pedal till he showed it to me. The first automatic I rode in was a '53 Pontiac and I watched the shift lever to see when it changed gears and it never moved, I thougt it was really weird.

True. You would think that manufacturers would make a 100-120 hp model HST. The state guys who use the long arm boom mowers to cut right of ways im sure would love to have the ease of a HST while creeping along and making multiple stops and backing up.

I’ve never had the displeasure to tear down a 700 hp dozer, but other than the size what’s the difference in the basic concept? I bet the dozer still has a hydraulic pump or pumps that powers a hydraulic motor or motors with a gear box behind it and probably has better oil cooling ability.

Today in the larger tractors they have several versions simular to the hydro called CVT and they are getting the bugs out of them! Like all hydro's they shine with PTO work and when mounting multi mowers on them they are good up to about 1500 acres a year before they go into the big self propelled machines.
