Good morning!!!!

56 cool and damp, going to 82. Hummingbirds are going nuts around the feeders.

With all the rain, need to mow again. But the plan is to spray the food plots and get them planted a month+ late.

Yesterday the ground was too wet to do much, so took the trailer and picked up a load of river pebbles and a yard of mulch...I use 2 tarps so I can get both in the same trip...then home to unload...using a pitchfork on the mulch and shovel on the rocks...so a couple of hours of lifting and throwing rock wore me out...wish I had a better method, but the trailer is 5 feet wide and the FEL bucket is 6 feet. Most of the time I at least lay the bucket up against the end of the trailer and rake the rocks into it, but didn't yesterday...I should have.

Buppies, glad those new tires are working for you. Our ground has been so damp since I got my zero that I have had to be careful not to tear up any grass with just turf tires.

Don, I know this is a stressful time for you. I hope you have a good rocking chair to relax. My best one was made by the Mennonites using bentwood hickory and oak slats...fits me perfectly (you could say it caresses) and has just the right degree of backward rock, and smooth. (for those in the region...got it at Yoder's in Madison a few years ago...think it was $249).

How far is that from Drew and will it fit in the back of an outback?

Getting hot today
Windstorm yesterday brought a tree down on front fence but no more time for extra maintenance- the new owner took care of it.
Boxes to pack.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 56° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 67° mostly cloudy skies. Slept in today. Nice trip to the East Side of Metro Detroit yesterday. Had dinner at a nice seafood restaurant on the river. Saw a few Great Lakes Freighters cruising up and down the river. The picture is of the Cuyahoga. Built in 1943. Far shore is Canada.

Don, can't believe how quick you sold and got moved. Will miss all the stories from your place, like the fenceline clearing, water over the drive, the firehouse dinners. But looking forward to whippers new adventures in the city, and the golf ball invasions.

Good Morning!!!! 61F @ 6:00AM. Partly cloudy. High 81F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

That’s a pretty amazing moving job you’re doing, Don. Last time I moved, it took six weeks of packing, thirty some trips with the F250 and a 5x8 trailer, and I lost twenty pounds. You’re smart making three piles; I moved everything and still have boxes that haven’t been opened since they got here in ‘10!

Nice ride up the back way to Quincy, through Bucks Lake, and found the detour on CA162 that was put in last winter when the road washed out. It was four miles of well graded gravel with more than its fair share of potholes, some of which couldn’t be seen because of the deep shadow from the tree cover. I think I heard banjos back there at one point! The Bucks Lake road was in fantastic condition, though, and all the little turns strung together for many miles in the mountains reminded me of why I love this area so much. Patti’s Thunder Cafe served a delicious heuvos rancheros (a half order had me straining the zipper on my jacket!) and I had time to enjoy a cup of decaff after the capichino ran out (can you tell there’s no spelling checker on this infernal iPad?). Alas, the road construction that the CalTrans web site said would be finished last weekend was still going strong, but the waits were minimal and since one of the notices said CA70 was CLOSED, I think a lot of people found alternate routes.

When I got home I found that both fork legs were leaking, then recalled I’d purchased new seals long enough ago to forget where I put them, and even that they needed replacing. Since oil and brake rotors don’t mix, I got to looking for them and found them in the third of three spots where they could be, then proceded to get fork oil all over the bench, the floor, and me getting the old ones out and the new ones installed. It’s a light oil, though, and didn’t soak into the concrete very much and mostly evaporated by the time the job was done. I was hoping the engine would cool enough to check the valves by then, but it was warm enough in the garage that it didn’t.

Even with the time I spent gawking at a new wildfire that started in the campground across the canyon. It’s never good when I hear airplanes circling here, and there were two of them: A water bomber and a spotter plane. The guys on the ground must have been on top of their game, though, as they were there right away and stopped forward spread after just a few acres got toasted. Our local county Facebook fire and crime feed was already on top of it, too, so I posted a picture taken from the back porch and told them the helicopter noise they were hearing was coming from an electric utility job, not CalFire. I’ll post a photo later when I’m sitting at a real computer. But now begins six months of nervous waiting, never knowing when the planes will come back and it might be time to bug out to safety.
