Not concrete, but bags of lime, yes. Last week I had 9 50# bags of hydrated lime stacked in the back of the truck. Had to punch the brakes because the car in front of me stopped dead in the road (an emergency stop to look at a house for sale) and they all slid forward in the bed.

Which didn’t fall out. Would the outcome have been different setting on the tailgate vs in the bed tailgate up.

Braking is typically a much larger change than acceleration. I wouldn't be worried about a large load falling out the back of a truck from normal start & stop... however, you'd be surprised at what can happen if you hit a bump while accelerating. All that friction folks are talking about that a 80# bag of crete has? Zilch, once it's up in the air from the bump, and if you're accelerating... out it comes.

Must be a heck of a bump and dragster like acceleration.

Found online - A strap or chain may have helped

They were changing it anyways, at least it didn't go through the bottom of the boat.

I'll bet that crane was bolted to the bed only, not the frame.

It looked like an engine lift/hoist so not bolted at all

I'll bet that it wasn't bolted at all, just sitting there with straps/chains holding it in place. That worked well until the motor pushed the base forward enough to get some slack and let it fall over.
