I'm sure that guy was just thinking ahead and saving space for a load of scented candles and bath towels!

One thing I remember as a kid is how much ground clearance old cars had. Granddad would bring lumber home with his '41 Packard, he would simply drive over, say, some boards 15ft long, then tie to front and back bumpers.
Then in 60s Dad's friend carried an 8ft 2x4 in his Valient sticking out passenger's window. He said he knocked some guy down who was getting mail out of his mailbox!

Half way through the red light I noticed this & got a photo before it turned green.

My mind just boggles. It's not ignorant or uneducated, that's just stupid. Wonder how many they started with. View attachment 555826

Which unsecured item were you thinking might come off, the cement from the pickup or the blonde from the bike in front of it? ;)

I have to admit I’ve hauled cement like that. Unless your truck rolls over it’s not going anywhere.

Hanging off the edge of the tailgate rather than in the bed while going down a highway with speed limits of 55? I've seen a great many things slide violently around the bed of a truck when accelerating, stopping or turning. With the tailgate down it's more likely the innocent person behind pay the price for that stupidity than the driver.

Hanging off the tailgate no. On the tailgate yes. Concretely bags on a tailgate are high friction. Have you ever tried to slide one?

Perhaps not likely to slide off but in a side collision or other type of accident its not likely to end well.

Not concrete, but bags of lime, yes. Last week I had 9 50# bags of hydrated lime stacked in the back of the truck. Had to punch the brakes because the car in front of me stopped dead in the road (an emergency stop to look at a house for sale) and they all slid forward in the bed.
