Back from another run to arkansas to get the boys from college. 2nd 2000 mile trip in a little over a month.
Lawn is really tall, oldest said he would work on that today.

You go the extra mile, literally and figuratively, for your kids for sure.
I'm glad he will help you Buckeye. Rain probably made it jump.
isn't that what teenagers are for?.......

But despite being raised in the Paleozoic Era...I understand the world today is very different.
Not usually for farm families, you grow up without any choice of not pitching in. It's a sense of responsibility
that is sadly lacking off the farm.
I'll go back to the La Brea Tar Pit now and settle in.

Poured second cup of coffee. 41° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 67° with lots of sun. Never got rain yesterday. Called it a day after finishing one section of pavers. Will do last section of leveling today. Ribs came out good yesterday. Need to change BBQ sauce. Wife says it's to spicy for her. Any suggestions.

Randy, Woodward Dream Cruise is August 18th this year. I will have to admit that I was one of those Woodward Cruisers back in the 60's. Fun time cursing the Totem Pole, Ted's and other places along the route. All my trophies got thrown out when we moved to this place in 72.

Buppies, get well soon.

Prayers for those in need.

Good Morning All.

We went to Woodward three years in a row, last was 2003 when the big blackout occurred. Drove this.

sweet. Designed for Talladega?
bet that motor could light them up
Cruising Woodward Ave, what a treat. I only got to drive it once in a rental car, not quite the same.
Sounds like wonderful memories Randy.

53°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 79° today.

We had one of those pop-up storms yesterday evening that grew into an angry red spot on the radar as it approached us. Started to get a little violent, but was small and didn't last long enough to do any real damage. Lots of lightning and wind, and about 10 minutes of heavy rain. Would have been OK if we weren't trying to get that retaining wall and stair project finished. Another mud delay.

Got a lot done Saturday, as the weather here was just beautiful. Took the weed wacker for a long walk into all the areas we can't mow right now because of construction. Ended up trimming about 1/2 acre total with the Husqy line trimmer. Fired up first try. The Wife's Echo ... not so much. Didn't take the time to pull the plug, but sounds like there's no spark. Guess I'll deal with that some night this week. My whole body was sore Sunday from the first time out being a mega-event. Hands were especially sore. We also picked up several piles of leaves from the oaks in the front, and carried them back to the burn pile. Finally made time to weld three hooks on the LS bucket, too. Not pretty, but they're on. Busy day.

Sunday was the antithesis of Saturday. I got a whole lot of nothing done, but not for lack of effort. Went to harbor Freight to pick up some solid tire (or "tyre") wheels for the hose cart, as The Wife has grown weary of the pneumatics always losing air. Naturally, I grabbed the wrong ones, wrong hub diameter. So, I'll have to swap those out on the way home from work this evening. I was able to get three of the four existing tires to hold pressure, so it's a bit easier to roll for her today. Also bought a new 100' hose to get the cart a little over halfway from the well house tap/faucet/spigot to the chicken coop by the barn, until I can dig and find the leak in the buried line that goes to the tap/faucet/spigot next to the pasture gate. She'll at least not have to carry water to the coop now. After connecting everything, I fired up the well pump for the first time this year, and water was gushing out everywhere. Found two giant splits in the pvc pipes connecting the tank to the outside tap/faucet/spigot. It appears someone used the well after I drained the line last winter, but didn't drain it again, and it froze and burst in two places. Great. Something else to fix. We have city water from Trenton for the house, so she's just using that outside connection for now; hose on a reel connecting to a hose on the ground connecting to a hose on a cart ... so the chickens can have water without carrying it. (First World Problems ).

On a brighter note, Wifey spent her day yesterday studying, and took an exam online last night after the storm passed. She can now add Certified Pet Nutritionist to her ever-growing list of dog training certificates. She'd started to take this course a few years ago, but it was interrupted by unfortunate family events. The school was kind enough to let her pick up where she left off, and she got it done with a month to spare. Over 500 pages of course material for this one. Quite proud of her accomplishments.

Glad no serious issues where you are, David. Looks like your pool water has no idea which way it's supposed to go.

You are dead-on correct, Drew. That irresponsible mentality drives me nuts.

Spent most of Saturday napping. The last couple of weeks just wore us out. Worked on storage shed a bit yesterday, got the garage door springs installed and the locks. wife and daughter working more on it this afternoon, hoping to get a loft installed to hold some of the lighter stuff.

We got a soaking rain last night, rained hard some and then just rained for several hours.

Good morning everyone.

Low 40F's and cloudy to start the day, it is now in the high 50F's, and should reach the 60F's later today. A good day for pruning fruit trees. This has been a strange year for the trees; March was colder than average which messed the trees up. I will leave the peach alone, the pear needs to be finished today, and the apples are next. Wife is doing better, but her arm will be in a sling for quite a while.

Buppies- I am sorry to read about the antibiotics messing with your guts. I agree about the probiotics. Some people tolerate yogurt better than the pills. I hope you feel better soon.

David- I am happy to read that you and Sophie remain safe.

BEF- I hope your yard gets mowed as anticipated.

Don- You are lucky to be a neighbor to the Pileated Woodpecker family. I hope that you can get some pictures. I am sorry to read abut your neighbors. Your "distances" are far more distant than most peoples'.

"...... Guess I’m gettin’ old"- RNG It's a mixed blessing. Now one's own body keeps one from exceeding the "Fun Factor." It reads like you had a great time despite being "old."

PJS- Congratulations on your Wife's certification as a pet nutritionist. Researching out Brogen's special dietary needs due to the MMM was mind boggling. I can see the need for your Wife's specialization. There is a lot of information to try to understand. Your weld job looks decent to me. I wish that I was your neighbor. Underground water lines are meant to break; actually plumbing in general it seems. I hate those repeat trips to the hardware store. :(

Drew- The tarpit is getting crowded. :(

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

I am working slowly on my beadboard ceiling. How to remove 20 year old glue from 100 year old wood, quickly? I have glue strips down the length of the room, from the drywall they had over the beadboard. I have taken a scraper to it, labor intensive. I am looking for an easier solution, maybe chemicals? The glue is nice, old and brittle.

If the glue is water based, you might try moistening a rag and laying it on the glued area to see if it will soften. If it does, a wire brush might whisk it away.

If it's petroleum based, try some paint stripper. Might do the same thing.

Failing that, if the beadboard isn't too delicate, try a rotary wire brush in a small angle grinder, or coarse 36 grit discs in an air sander. But those are likely to remove the bead detail as well.

Good luck!

Good morning to all! 54 this morning, it to 78 today, nice light breeze. No rain forecasted.

Last night I suddenly either pinched a nerve or have a bad low back muscle spasm on the opposite side of the knee. I think it's from walking and compensating for the knee. Woke up this morning and the knee has felt better than it has for the past months! Back was still acting up, but also better. I'm really getting tired of being broken:(

Just taking it easy today, let everything settle down.

Glad everyone had a good weekend, those that are healing are getting better!

I find it amazing that I have such a strong desire to "cut grass". Since moving here to the high desert 25 years ago, even on a wet year, only have to cut the fields 2-3 times a season. Weed whacking usually once a month. Most people living out here don't even do that. I see pics of Drew's place and drool, then hear about all the dewberries and cobblers, then about having to prune trees..... That's it !! I'm moving:laughing:

All the recent talk of CBDs reminds me that one of the sponsors of the VW event held a tequila tasting and salsa competition on Friday night. My salsa didn't win anything, but it wasn't one of my best batches, either. They were also pouring a CDB infused beer, which was pretty unusual but quite trendy. It tasted skunky, like somebody had used it to wash a basketball team's socks, which I suppose is also quite trendy. One glass was quite enough for me, and did nothing for my usual aches and pains the next morning. Then I caught one of the sponsor's employees, who was regulating the tequila tastes for everyone else, pouring two inches of a fine anejo 100% agave tequila into his glass of undefined mixing swill and told him what an ***** he was. That comment wasn't well received, so I went on to explain that his employer and all those like myself who had donated the bottles, some of which were quite expensive, supported the event because it gave everyone a chance to taste a wide variety of tequilas and perhaps find one or two they liked. It was decidedly not to support his binging and drunkenness. He started to mouth off again when his employer dragged him away before he could do more PR damage. That was the one and only ugly incident in the eitire four days, at least people wise.

I didn't take many photos this time around; looking at all those lovely Syncros only reminded me of how long it's taken to get the one I have going again. One I did take was of the remainder of a set of needle nose pliers a local tire shop dug out of my campground neighbor's tire on Saturday morning. I'd accompanied him into town to get some ice and drag back the large BBQ grill he'd be using to prepare dinner for us all when we started noticing a thump, thump, thump coming from the back of the truck about half way there. A few minutes later his tire pressure display was showing 20 psi and a few minutes after that we found the tire shop. The pliers had entered points first, creating two holes that fortunately could be patched. It was unfortunate to have happened as we were already a bit pressed for time, but it didn't ruin the tire, the tire shop was on the way to the grocery store where he was going to purchase ice, they got on his repair immediately in spite of having a garage full of other customers, and when we got to the grocery, he got a spot in the first row right in front of the door! I told him he should also buy a lottery ticket.

I seem to always buy from the AttaLeak Company...of course leaving them out during the winter is a bit of a torture test
Sorry

Delivered a full box of fresh lettuce to local food bank this afternoon. Amazing amount of work goes into that little box...
Unfortunately the lettuce got covered in dirt this morning from a end of system downpour, blasts the sandy dirt up into the leaves.
But they know they have to wash it. I saved three nice heads for myself, dinner tonight will be a treat.

And Ted, this lettuce? Droolworthy. Some of it was vegetable art. It's a mix of about six different interesting lettuces
and today most of them gave their all for the good folks of Beaufort County.

Ok sharp eyes out there, and yeah this is too easy, what's the wildlife in the lettuce?
Carefully placed on the lawn I might add...

Feel free to drop by anytime and take a ride on the tractor, Ted. I'll even make sure the mower is attached so you can rekindle your fond memories of cutting grass.

Sorry to hear about your back, but at least the doctor's work seems to have helped the knee!

It's the skeleton of a Pliersaurus!

wonder if the tire might have a little thump from that, maybe some bent steel.

Had a surveyor check on the compass rose. Something is happening. It's off 1.78˚. Are those Hawaii earthquakes or sunspots throwing off the magnetic field, is the ground moving here? Even the iPhone is showing 2˚ off and was perfect before.

The owner wasn't concerned at all. He tows modular homes for a living, and the pickup was his escort vehicle. Puts over 100,000 miles a year on it, and even high mileage Michelins like the damaged one don't last very long. And since it was a company truck, it wasn't coming out of his pocket anyway.

He drove his rig to the event. It looked like a Kenworth, a huge thing, but instead of having the usual semi tractor hitch on the back, he had a fairly good sized tracked crawler with mounts for ramps over the wheels. Apparently some of the locations where the homes are being built are quite off the beaten track, and the crawler is the only way to get them up there. So the home modules have a standard ball hitch, which the truck also has, as does the crawler. The crawler's is mounted on a forklift type arrangement with up/down and left/right hydraulic actuators. He said the longest pitch the crawler's done was ten miles, and it took the better part of eight hours to do it.

Oh, and his luck ran out when we picked up the BBQ grill trailer. The guy at the rental company forgot to take the trailer jack off the tongue, and boy did it make a noise when we tried to leave! No harm to the truck, but the jack didn't quite look right after that...
