Question about the LED bulbs. I had 4 three bulb commercial fixtures that I put up in the shop. I purchased the daylight LED bulbs that were "drop in replacements" ( no re-wiring of ballast ) at HD and was rather disappointed at the intensity. Are the specific 'LED shop lights' you guys are talking about brighter?

In my shop I have replacement tubes. Brightness is better than the original daylight tubes. For brightness the Sam’s Club fixtures are brighter. The shop lights are at 7’. Barn lights are at 10’.
Best part I have not lost a single light since they were put up. Although 2 failed before I put them up.

LS and Randy- Congratulations on raising your kids (with help) to successful, independent adulthood. Any parent who gets their kids to successful adulthood gets my highest respects. I saw too many examples of "mis-parenting" in my professional life. No kids here :(. Psychologists should probably not have kids anyways.

Randy- I follow all the FAA and AMA recommendations for my RC aerial operations (I now fly "sober" too). I am a rules stickler with this RC stuff. I do not know why

I am really impressed with the new 90mm brushless FPV quads now on the market. They could probably be flown indoors in a decent sized room and not take out any indoor plants, ceiling fans, or fancy large TV sets.

The really nice multicopters are in reality really nice well balanced flying video cameras. I have some cyber-friend builders who build a multicolor that could carry two full cases of bottled beer (test flight) that they built to carry the leader line for heavier duty lumbering cable. That multi rotor was a beast. My "C" is pretty scary up close and personal when it's 4 9" props are spinning.

Like all things, it depends on which bulbs/manufacturers you'er talking about.

I have both the FEIT/Costco drop in tubes, and the two bulb fixtures (same source/make), and they are the same brightness as far as I can tell. Haven't done any measurements on power consumption, but I expect that the drop ins use more because it runs through a ballast.

Can you share the background on your crashes? Been thinking about purchasing a drone for a while now, and the thought of ruining it on the first flight is a big reason I haven't pulled the trigger.

In addition to the epoxy, give some thought to adding a screw or two, or maybe a pair of zip ties. Epoxy isn't all that great for shock loads, or at sticking to smooth metal.

Operator error and inexperience would likely be the major factors. Add a dose of over confidence when things are going well
A couple, including the 300 footer were likely a vortex ring state caused by too rapid descent. I have decreased the gain in hopes of avoiding that.

The gimbal doesn’t lend itself to either a screw or zip ties as it needs free motion to control the camera.

Lots of you tube stuff out there to help learn. Something like a Syma X5C-1 is a fun low cost ($50) first drone to learn a bit and quite forgiving.

Welcome. I’m on the other side. Some folks post before I go to bed and when I say good morning they are past lunch.

Learning to fly my drone is right up there with learning to operate my backhoe, both accompanied by a sense of frustration and self doubt. I think in both cases I had a tendency to overthink until I developed a bit of muscle memory and let my brain take over.

My first drone crash could have best my worst but luckily not. Had only flew about half dozen times and one day thought I’d do a quick one out front by the pool. Wife let the dogs out to join me just as I was about to land just a couple of feet from pool. Poor timing as just as I got about 3 ft off ground a wind gust took me over and in for a swim in the shallow end. Took several days to dry it out and thankfully it still worked. phew.

Thanks for sharing Ted, I sure hope to avoid that level of involvement. I did get my grown son a small drone he had fun with here but would never be able to fly at his house in Va.

All my flights until this week have been under my control (or poor control) I did a couple of waypoint missions in Litchi this week as I want to do some repeatable camera work over time (track changes to sun on my PV)
My friends crash was a waypoint mission where it took him into the trees causing us to question the accuracy of the Map vs GPS.

Glad I can still have fun as a grown child
