Super tall pickup beds

Y'all are waaaaaayyyyy off topic now. :)

I agree, trucks are getting so high they are decreasing in use-ability. The gooseneck on my horse trailer is at full compression to the shortest possible setting in order to sit level while on my stock 2011 F-250. I am over 6' tall and can't reach the middle of the bed over the side, so in order to hook up the chains and lock the ball I have to climb over the sidewall and under the gooseneck. There is no need of that and it is getting worse.

The current years' trucks are about three inches higher at the bed, so that is an issue. There has been no dramatic redesign of the F-250/350 brakes, load capacity, frame, etc. since 2011, so I don't buy those excuses. They are raising them for style, not necessity, and it is reducing their functionality in many ways.

What about ride quality? More travel could mean a better ride. My 1995 F350 dually 2wd flatbed is low to the ground, bed is over 8ft wide and I can reach most from the ground (I’m 5ft 8in tall), but unloaded it’s closer to riding a skateboard down the road.

So maybe they are jacking them up to ride smoother on top of look “cooler”. Just a thought.

Nope. Purely cosmetic. Higher waistline.

They have to be lifted so people can see the 4 to 6 brightly painted shocks behind the front tires.

Not really, we have not figured out if rural or urban folk like the higher trucks better and if the urban population percentage in the given state makes a difference. Urban people have more trouble getting groceries in and out of the higher beds. Plus parking is an issue.

I just bought my son's F150 XL 2WD back from him after I bought it for him 6 years ago. He needed a 4 door for his family and the Ford with a standard cab was limited.

I figured that it would make a good daily driver. With the little 4.2L V6 and 3.55 gearing it's easy on gas. Little did I realize that with stock 17" rims the darn thing is the same height as my 07 2500 HD Chevy. Going to have to get some running boards or steps.

Payload is listed at 1830# so I'm probably good for 1300# or so. I don't need that many groceries.

That could depend on if you haul them with the hooves on or not.

I remember well taking a couple small bulls to the sale in my grandfathers old 66 Chevy long bed with side planks. I was only around 12 at the time. She was squatting pretty good.

For several years I used a metal slide in rack that utilized the lowered tailgate as well. Put that on my '75 1/2T Ford and fill it full of 220lb fathogs and she'd drive like a dream. Or was that a nightmare.... ;)

I have to think I am just one of many that is really sick of the height of new pickups. You need to carry a ladder on board just to reach them!
So tall, in fact, that it can prevent leveling a goose neck trailer.

This becomes a real problem with flatbed haulers because it interferes with use of the fold down ramps.

This fella lifted his truck too much now it won’t fit in the garage lol. But good news, he can prob stand in his bed and clean out the gutters.

That's actually just an F150. Pictures are sometimes deceiving. If that won't fit in his garage he needs to build taller doors. :)

It may have been mentioned already, but another result of taller trucks is a flatter floorboard surface. The hump is not as large as it once was.

Only a nightmare if they were going to market and the price of pork was down. :D
