I bought a Stanley 2 qt SS thermos back about 1979. It had a plastic bail handle which broke off about 1983 or thereabouts. My internet connection in 1983 was pretty poor.

I've kept using the vacuum bottle, its beat up, big dents in the bottom, but still keeps hot beverages well. Routinely we will preheat it, fill it with hot coffee, drive 12 hours what we haven't drank will still be warm to hot. Lots of times I'll just drop it in my FEL bucket when I go into the field.


So about a month ago I went through their "warranty claim" process, requesting a new bail. A few emails and they said they would send the part.

Today I rec'd a new 1.1 qt thermos.


Good - new thermos.
Bad - too small

I still think that it is great support for a nearly 40 year old product, without a receipt.

Now I cracked a turn signal lens on my B7610, do you think Kubota will ship me a new tractor?

Interesting...reminded me of a similar story told to me 30 or more years ago. Seems like the friend of a friend had an expensive SS thermos that also lost the handle. The friend of the friend got the bright idea that he would fashion a new handle and attach it himself. In the process of attaching the new handle, he decided to attach it with screws...so, he proceeded by drilling a hole in the side of the thermos to accommodate a screw. Much to his surprise, as the drill bit penetrated the outer layer of metal, he heard a loud and rapid "whooshing" sound. Exit vacuum; enter new, high dollar SS Thermos.

And an update- Wrote them again requesting just the bail. From there reponse they probably don't have any, so they are sending me ANOTHER new 2QT vacuum bottle and told me to keep the 1.1 qt they sent first

So my best friend is a chemist. We wanted to make liquid nitrogen ice cream. Ln is minus like 200f. We poured into a Stanley thermos to bring it home. Figure it would be one use and toss. Nope. That thermos acts like it is brand new.

I've got a Stanley thermos/lunchbox combo like this that I've been using for longer than I can remember. The thermos also goes ice fishing with me every winter.

Get two large hose clamps and clamp on any handle you want. Webbing, rope, garden hose...

I have a stainless Thermos and two Stanleys. I bought the Thermos myself in 1970. I inherited both of the Stanleys, one from a buddy who was a long haul truck driver for Freuhoff in the '50s and '60s, one from my father. All three still work fine. I took a look at the new ones, and they are much flimsier. The only one that ever quit working was a 2 quart Thermos that I dropped a front loader bucket on about 1977. The Stanleys were famous for a high rate of manufacturing defects, so the drill was to buy one, give it a try, and if it didn't keep your coffee hot, take it back and exchange it. Once you got a good one, it would last forever.

I have a Stanley dated 1980, it did not come with the handle so the handles where added after 80. However, they did sell a handle kit for them a few years afterwards and so I purchased one. Never had any problem with the thermos. One of the best purchases I ever made. They used to sell replacement stoppers and cups for them in good hardware stores back then and even a cork that was specifically shaped for it. Now I think they are made in China. Maybe with all these companies coming back to the States thanks to Mr. Trump, we will maybe see Stanley back here and with the same quality. Just my thoughts. Bob

Took it home and for anyone who may no be aware of this way of cleaning put in a couple faults teeth cleaning pellets & it came out as shiny as the day it was made.

I had a 2 quart Stanley Stainless vacuum bottle I purchased around 1975 that I just recently found again under the sink...I hadn't used it in years and years so I gave it to a friend. It served me well.

Darn you made me think back 4get gto :laughing: I did at the time have them on hand for that purpose as one of my employees told me about it but I certainly have them on hand now for their intended purpose

Makes me think of my chain saw episode.
Bought a Johnsered used but not abused, shucks had original blade and chain, and while cutting some pine logs the crankshaft separated at the clutch achement local.
Having noticed that the machining was an abrupt cut and not a radius where the shaft had a stepdown I realized that the failure was in fact a factory defect.
I called the distributor simply to point out the defect all while stating it was not a claim but rather a 'heads up' as it was well out of warrantee.
To me surprise the suggested that I bring the defective crank to them and they gave me a new crankshaft and associated seals etc.
I added rings (paid for them) as I wanted to profit and have a 'new' saw.
No that's what I call product support!
The end result is that I have a (now) 8-10 year old saw that is as good as the day it was new.
LOL, at my age that saw will outlive me.

FYI, Jonsered and Huskverna are the same company.

OH, onto the original topic. I also have that model thermos and do agree, make coffee at 7:00 and at noon it is still hot. Best Thermos ever!
Mine is also kinda bashed up. LOL.
PS, never could find the extra cups that fit the top end.
