27°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 57° today. Heavy frost on everything when I left the house. Supposed to be near 60° for the next two days as well. OK, we'll take that.

The boy finally came strolling in about ... well, not about, but at exactly ... 02:44 this morning, with the alarm system keypad waking everyone in the house. (sigh) Never did get back to sleep. Going to be a long day.

Morning all and a get well to all needing it;
6 this morning when we got up, took my wife to work and home now up to 13 supposed to get to 40's this weekend again, had 40 and rain couple of days ago, felt good between showers, then cooler again. At least most of the ice is off my driveway, still a lot on the farm roads that we don't usually plow, some spots in the feed lots starting to get sloppy. prefer the cold to mud that thaws each day and freezes each night.

I know, it's crazy. My friends moved to Dayton Ohio. It's 25F there and 27F here. WTHeck?

Ed, maybe a smoothie with good fruits and you can add some protein powder? Bananas, blueberries, peaches, whatever you want. My wife uses Silk Almond vanilla milk to make hers.

Not to cold this morning 29*, it looks like it got up to the mid 40's yesterday. It's going to be in the high 30's today. With the wind increasing to 20-25 and a chance of snow showers tonight into tomorrow morning.

It looks like the wind made the snowdrifts grow while we were gone. I'll take care of the that today.
Had a good time in SLC with the grandkids.

I believe so cold air is rebuilding in Canada that air has been locked in Siberia for the past little bit. Once it builds up so much the gates open so to speak and eastern Texas should receive a dose or two. MidWest will get hammered first. This is subject to me being wrong of coarse

I am sorry to read about "the elephant." It sucks (literally) to have restricted airflow. Hang in there. Yes there is interesting modeling going on in the "weather world."

This roller coasting weather pattern pattern of below freezing to above freezing back to subfreezing with corresponding changes in precipitation type makes driveway management here my primary challenge. Like RoyJackson and Looking4new, and Lou ice is a fact of life this time of year. I'll probably be seeing a rain to snow event here early next week. I'll see what February brings weather-wise.

Ed thanks for the response. Do you think Mom is depressed? I hope the Dr. finds something. Will you or wife be with Mom during the evaluation? Our elders are sometimes serious "under reporters" or non reporters when talking with Drs. Ensure and similar high protein drinks really help one maintain body weight. My + thoughts and prayers for your Mom. You and Toppop52 are heroes especially your wives. It is a hard and sometimes lonely life becoming a primary care giver for a loved one. The stress and required lifestyle changes is enormous. The primary care responsibilities usually do fall on the woman/women involved. This is a global pattern not just the USA. I saw more nursing home and rest home "dumps" of loved ones by their loving kin than I care to remember. There are cultural differences in the USA.

Low teen temperatures this AM, mid teens now with ineffective sunshine. It should reach the low 20F's this PM. Like a few others here, I need to mess with the ice, move some firewood, and split some 1/4's down to kindling.

23 this morning and headed to 54 today. Heavy frost this morning.

Need to get going and run some errands. Been watching Superior Livestock Auction this morning. They are offering 19,200 head of cattle today. They only sell tractor trailer load lots. Only about a 6 hour auction. Seem to be selling very well. Which they usually do. I enjoy watching their auctions but it kills too much time.

Feeling much better. Still weak and tire easily.

Buppies- Your weather prognostication is what I am seeing and believing this AM in the weather news. You have probably seen as much snow as I have this year. I have measured 34"'s of snowfall here so far this season.

you heat with wood, so dealing with the ice on the driveway should be a no brainer for you. Spread the ashes on the driveway.

Temperature is in the high teens with hazy sunshine winds ~25 mph gusting to +30mph and windchill in the 0F/-0F range.

Looking4new- I am too cheap to buy sand and I do not go to the free community sandpile so my only recourse is those wood ashes. I have been using wood ashes on the driveway for the 30+ years that we have lived here. I have to clean our new wood stove daily. I throw those ashes on the driveway. I do not bother to store them I also have a 30G ashcan filled.

The problem is/has been the freeze melt then re-freeze cycle.

Ed- I did resident assessments for mental status at nursing and rest homes for 17 years and the secure Alzheimers unit that I managed for 3. I was specifically trained in Geriatric/Geriatric care and how all the medical/physical/medications/environment "mix" affects one's mood and behavior. I am retired, but what I learned then still applies. If I can be of help to you and/or anyone else here let me know. My services are free. When it comes to aging we are all in this together.

The good news is all those ashes + sunshine has turned the tide on the driveway challenge. I need to get back to the wide pile later. I'll take a picture. I warn you before hand it is ugly out there.

43F currently.......will get to 50. No rain right now.......5 inches in last 2 days. Slews are full due to run off........lots of new lakes during high tides.

We have had about 4.5 inches of snow this winter total normally average 20 or so. All the storms keep going east of us

You are there for her now that's what counts and when she needs more care than you can provide you can switch to the role of patient advocate to make sure she continues to have the best care.

JB, sorry, forgot to answer, Mom eats well and even eats a few oz of mixed nuts every night. She is eating better than where she was before. ????? Hope the DR comes up with something.

Randy, my wife and I have never been alone. She had 3 kids when we met and just before they left we took in her brother and now my mom. When we thought we were going to be alone we were checking out long term missions. Ed

Our son was born less than a year after we married, once both kids were away from home, her mom was with us, she moved to assisted living and we had about five years until my mom came to live here. But what I meant was after we both retired and had time to be together, we got three months. But we did a lot.
