Warning for Firefox users

Things seemed to go pretty well until I changed to the later version of Firefox.

I have been unable to do much surfing this afternoon. Firefox seems to just stop. Task manager says memory usage is 50% or less. CPU usage is 100%. There are four firefox.exe entries, one of which is using 90% or more of CPU time. The light indicating disk activity is off most of the time. I am unable to get very far into to this forum using Firefox. I am using Internet Explorer right now. Think I will look at Chrome and uninstall Firefox.

Yes, CPU is running out of gas. The latest Firefox version is 57.0.4 so make sure you have that. Also try to do a Firefox "Refresh", that solves many problems. hamburger menu -> Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Refresh Firefox...

Firefox works just fine for me.--- Don't know what # it is.--just whatever they stuck on here and keep updating. thanks; sonny

Running 58.0 (64bit) here and apart from the annoyance of losing a couple of add-ons going through 56 and 57, no problems. A Windows update a couple of weeks ago caused a slow bootup for a week or so but that's corrected itself now.

58 is apparently a beta version? Not found by Help -> About Firefox

cpu usage is your issue. kill all firefox process's or reboot the computer, cpu should never sit at 100%

That is the version I have. The machine locks up (or I run out of patience) and am unable to do anything with it. CPU usage is very low until I move around on the site or go to other sites.

Maybe there is another problem with the machine, but IE seems to work ok. These problems started when I updated Firefox.

I appreciate the help. These things can be hard on what hair I have left.

Firefox on linux kept getting slower, even with the newest version. Ditto for Thunderbird. I have used Firefox from the beginning, but no longer. After dumping both Mozilla products & replacing them with Chrome & Evolution things are much improved.

I went with Microsoft Edge, my last two firefox upgrades made it basically unusable, constantly opening up numerous process and running at 100% cpu, constantly pausing in mid page just unusable.

I'm using Firefox Quantum with windows 10 (version 58.0 and 64bit) No problems and CPU usage at 2.5 to 3 %. Seems significantly faster than previous version?

That makes sense. The problem occurs only with Firefox, and nearly every time I activate it. Things ran fine for about an hour last night, but the problem returned this morning. Troubleshooting intermittent problems is difficult. An alternate browser is in my future, I think.

FWIW, I just installed version 58. The installation did not remove 57 and things were unchanged. Uninstalled 57 and the machine is working well. Time will tell.
