Didnt want to plow a gravel road because he was afraid he would get stuck.. That there is funny.

Most of the county rds in southern ohio are gravel, and about 98% of twp rds. They sure get plowed.

Yeah ... in his defense though, he thought it was a private road and wasn't making any assumptions about it's construction.

I explained to him that I had built it myself ... and that I had removed all the topsoil, put down fabric, it had probably had 8" to 12" of crushed asphalt as the base layer and we had had tri-axle dumps run across it loaded with zero issues.

Ain't no way his driver will be "sinking in and getting stuck" ... provided he stays on the road. It's an entirely straight shot ... so it shouldn't be an issue.

And I have about thousand pavers left over, just to get you started . . . .

 You must've had a plan for all those extra pavers, Don. Did you get enough of installing the ones you did and decide not to follow up on the rest? Asking because, even though I've seen pavers being installed, I've never done the job myself. Don't want to bite off more than I can chew...

RNG- You are sane

Thanks (I think)

and unfortunately very accurate about the state of care provided individuals challenged by mental illness.

I was afraid that would be the case. Unfortunately, after a few generations people forget that saving money doesn't always work the way they thought it would, and now we're paying through the nose to have our law enforcement and judicial system deal with everyday mental health issues on our streets. I'd hoped to get away from it by moving out of a large urban area, but the lower costs of rural living are a magnet for the economically disadvantaged, including those without the mental facilities to take care of themselves. And the county sheriff and jail aren't in any position to deal with them, other than the same way that criminals are dealt with. Sad state of affairs.

I've seen all kinds of emotional/psychological abuses perpetrated by "therapists" and filed professional complaints against a few accordingly.

Which begs the question: Who watches the watchers? Does the mental health industry police itself (the AMA maybe?), or is the gummint involved somehow?

My worst nightmare (besides last night's) is government using made up mental health rules to take away freedoms of the governed. That's the 1984 scenario RS quotes in his Sig.

RNG-

As professionals we are (or should be) bound to our ethical practices (Social Workers, Psychologists, Mental Health Practitioners, etc.). There are (or should be) licensure reviews following formal complaints of unethical malpractice. It can be a "delicate" process regarding peer review. It can be like the foxes guarding the henhouse. I at times worked with "high risk" individuals; some of my clients' treatment plans and course of treatment were reviewed by the clueless "mucky mucks" in the Department of Mental Health/Boston. There was never a complaint issued.

Law enforcement is forced for the sake of public safety to deal with the community placed mentally ill at taxpayer expense usually.

The old State Hospital systems (nation wide) based on the Dorothea Dix model could offer a safe, utopian-like (with real meaningful jobs), and productive life for the inpatients. I guess the "costs" of decent, quality mental health care are nowadays too high . When I started working the "back wards" as an attendant the patients would by habit get up and line up long before breakfast and wait. Being curious I asked a couple of them why. They told me they were going to work at the dairy barn, piggery, factory, etc. I then spoke to one of them "You know the barns are closed now." And he replied-"I know.... I was just hoping." To protect the mentally ill from abuses we also took away their right to work and social identities.

Sorry to hear about the jeep repair costs. Bummer. Here in Northern Michigan they use tons of salt to keep the roads less icy. Not sure if they do that in your area or not. Absolutely destroys vehicles. After a number of years you cringe when you have to work on anything exposed to it as you know it could be a nightmare with rounded or breaking fasteners.

When the temps are below zero F the roads dept switches to 'sweet mix', which is 75% sand and 25% salt. Yes they use lots of salt, mostly on the 'big street', Hwy 11. Not so much on the 'old highway' now numbered hwy 124.

Reports are coming in that residents in Hawaii are receiving emergency alert messages about a ballistic missile attack. Later declared as a false alarm. Wonder if you got one of these, David?

   / Good morning!!!! #67,969
I just read that and thought geez what a fright that must have given folks, to cell phones, radio stations, tv stations, wow...
Incoming ballistic missiles-this is not a drill, how would you like to read that on your phone?

   / Good morning!!!! #67,970
I agree.

It kind of reminds me of the air raid drills when I was a kid, but life was "simpler" then. Technology and information sharing is now at the point of exceeding our capacity to handle it.

Sadly it would not surprise me if someone with a heart condition had major problems when reading that.
No one person should be able to push that button, and I bet they won't any more.

Daugen- I checked your predicted longterm temperatures = Tuesday, January 23. I was surprised at some of your early AM temperatures.

Facial hair seems to help one deal with the cold. Icicles/stalactites of "moisture" hanging off my "stash" is really becoming.

"..... it is amazing to sit and watch people around you most will do something that has you wondering about their stability. Maybe it痴 just my area."- Farmer2009

It's not your area. Everyone is unique; some individuals are "more unique" than others  I consider myself to be idiosyncratic; most others drop the "syncratic" part.

There was a time in MA when psychiatric hospital staff could not serve as jurors in court due to their inability to basically think "rationally." It's probably true.

It looks like the NE and MA CONUS (down to Daugen) will see a pretty decent Great Lake Clipper and some snow for all early this coming week. This low pressure system may help churn up a coastal storm sometime around the 18th/19th according to some weather models. Real potential, track, timing, and rain/snow line yet to be predicted.

Keep it off the Eastern Shore!

Well you'd better start eating a lot of Clams Casino when you go out, and ask for a doggy bag.
Clams on the half shell.
Hi there. I'd like an order of Clams Casino and a 50 pound bag of your shells to go. Wonder how that will work out.

Makes a very nice looking driveway. Not well known in Nebraska, but along the shore and the Chesapeake Bay,
sure is a natural material. One could even say organic...at least to begin with.

Drew. Half the birds left Thursday night before they shut the plant down for the incoming bad weather. They should be in stores now maybe on some tables tonight. Other half leaves Monday night.

Plowing today didn’t go as well as I planned. I stayed warm but the drug lords on a spur road had already packed the snow into a sheet of ice. No other reasons for there to be that much traffic on a 10 Home road. All night. Usually atleast 1 bust a year back there anyways. But most is done. Have some small spots left to hit. Maybe try road again tomorrow if the sun loosens it up.

Some will probably argue I’m certifiable. Not only do I farm for a living but I’m a poultry farm.

Not good about Hawaii. Hadn’t heard about it before now.
