Always told my wife that when I bought my first house that I always wanted a home that I could pee and shoot off the back porch.

LONG story, well pump froze Sunday and was down back with a blow torch this morning. In the meantime, to conserve what water we had, early this morning took a #2 out back. 13 years here, has to be the first one I can remember (can't count the pees they're so many)

Nice to know I can do both outside my home in my own privacy:p

Yes, TMI...

Yes, TMI...

Our last house had 5 not very private acres... wife loved it, I hated it. Cannot stand watching neighbors watching me.... We moved, and now have 16 very private acres..... "sighs"... all is well again.

OR you could have just peed on the pump. 100 acres here. I am pretty much in the middle, but some tard had to go and build a house on the property line! And then THEY complain about noise and agricultural stink!

I will never understand those people that build expensive houses a stones throw from the road. I mean, it's the first thing wealthy people do, is afford themselves PRIVACY.

Read the headline and thought this was going to be a first day at the nursing home story. LOL :)

That's what I thought. Or how his tractor fits into that scheme of things.

For years I wondered the same thing... and it wasn't just expensive new homes, but regular rural houses/outbuildings.

Turns out (at least here) it's access to power. If you're a certain distance from the road, the power line hook-up & 'maintenance' is "free"... in that it's the responsibility of the power company. If you're 'set back' then you have to purchase (from 'them' of course) the power poles & cable. It's also up to you to maintain your poles/cable.

Personally, I think many just don't care. As long as they have their creature comforts inside, they don't care about the surroundings. Just look at all those monster homes where you could walk from one roof to another.

And then, for some, it would make those stupid recessed lights around the outside quite useless if there was no one to see them!

And I was thinking more about taking ones tractor to the (nursing) home!

You've got me thinking!
I am sorta getting closer to the nursing home every day (77).
Do yah think they will let me bring my sweet little 1920 Ford 4x4 FEL along to keep in my room?

While we constructed our house (PanAbode) we used the pre-dug gopher holes. By the time we had the house finished, the plumbing completed and all the electrical run - it was a fairly long trot to get to an unused hole.

People are truly amazed how remote I am out here. They stand on my front porch and look out over my little lake and dream. Like I always tell everybody - If I'm standing out on my porch and I can see you - you are trespassing and dam well better have a good reason for being where you are.View attachment 534999

We lived in a RV, pull behind camper for lots of years. Winters were really tough... always frozen pipes. Would dig a deep hole for the first year but quickly decided an outhouse was a much better option!!! (thou, no Sears catalog...) That's always an option but all of our plumbing in the new house was planned out to not freeze!

Guess now that means you've properly marked you land and it's really yours!!!

I was married and living in town when I bought my land. Then we got divorced and she kept the house, I got the land. I had a barn to put everything in with running water and electricity, but nothing else. I basically camped there for several weeks until I got the septic installed, and then put in a toilet. It was summer, so showers where from a hose.

Are you talking country houses or suburban developments? I don't get why anyone would want to live in a suburban development with houses crammed in like sardines and very little yard, but apparently some don't mind. Out here in the country the big expensive places are usually set well back or are on lightly traveled roads. The only ones close to the street would be the big 18th century mansions, but they were from a different time.

Then again, there are the old places like mine where the present road probably didn't exist when the house was built (1830s). A little less privacy from the road than I'd prefer, but we aren't on a particularly busy road so it's not that big a deal. Only one neighbor close enough to see their house and then only in the winter.
Wife likely wouldn't be happy if I peed off the steps (no back porch, only a front one that is right off the driveway).

I have lived in Urban areas without having issue over lack of privacy. Maybe living in the country too long makes one an anti social recluse!

We just moved onto our 32 acres. Our closest neighbors are 5 acres away (too close if I had to do it over again)...looking FORWARD to becoming an anti-social recluse!

In my defense, I didn't go into the story that my wife told me over the phone when she had to deal with the one boy when nature called.

Kicker is, he's just graduated from Cub Scout to Boy Scout, and I gave him some grief when I got home.

I need to find some manure work they both can do so they can get use to dealing with s***.

On a sidenote and unrelated topic, he did tell me a good one last night...

What's the cheapest candy you can buy?

Deer balls.

It's under a buck.

Have to admit, thought it was pretty good and I never heard it before.
