Smart phone or basic phone?

I have two copper lines, private and business. Still love having a convo on copper. Not even on a cordless phone. Cell, great for messages. But yes, my business line has had nothing but trouble for about a year. The Nortel DMX is getting old. Sometimes the problems are common to all customers on that DMX and I am the only one reporting it. as more and more customers are using their cell phones.

Oh, and I hate, and will never get used to holding some flat phone up to my head to make a call. Never mind the poor audio level.

I'm anxious to try the app that adds instant captions to the smart phone as you are listening to the other person talk. I have the hardest time understanding the people from India and usually just tell them to repeat what they said as I give my phone to my wife who understands all dialects.

I still use a 'flip phone' that actually takes pics.
Not long ago I wanted to capture some interesting wildlife but since I had no cell reception I could not access the pic feature.
Would a 'smart phone' be better?
But also this 'flip' is digital while my old analogue would do the job but Bell cancelled analogue.

Oh, must add that I am a mere 60 miles north of Montreal, Canada's 2nd biggest city but not interesting to any carrier.
The cell carriers have had millions of subsidies but none seem to apply to fringe areas. Only major metropolitan high profit zones.

Not all that long ago A bell employee told me how happy Bell was that they had lost X number of land line subscribers.
Seems like they really want to get rid of anyone that still uses a land line, much cheaper to reprogram a computer snag than send out a technician to fix a shorted hard wired connection.

My son has no land line (in US) and his connections are horrible, He said to have a land line was a $500, installation.

Certainly! I can't imagine why your phone needs to see the network to take pictures. That really makes no sense at all. I don't know of any smartphones that have that problem.

I'm speaking more about background noise and poor RF coverage. I don't think a day hardly goes by that I don't experience someones cell phone dropping a call. And they ALWAYS say "Don't know what happened" How stupid! Garbage technology, that's what happened. Try calling on a copper line! Not saying the technology isn't truly amazing, just too flaky like most modern technology. Works 80% of the time!

Sorry, but wrong again. Cell service has become more reliable than the old copper for most people. Cell service undergoes constant improvement, and copper plant is being allowed to degrade to never before low levels. No one is putting any money in copper plant any more. Just ask many copper plant users out in the boonies how their landline service is lately. Not good.

Yes it would and you could zoom.

Or any flip phone I have ever seen. Perhaps some have no internal memory and must upload to a cloud site? That is all I can think of. My smartphone has 32 Gigibit of memory, and many have a lot more. You can take thousands of pictures and store them on the phone. Thousands of PDF's or word docs or excell docs. also depending on size, and quite a few videos, again depending on size.

Cell phones don't need service to take photos. I was in London. My phone did not have cell service but the camera worked fine. Photos were stored to internal memory. You can even expand memory by adding a micro we care to most phones.
