I bought the cousin to yours (L3901) earlier this year. I have about 70HRS on it and so far so good. I've had two regens which were uneventful. Be very mindful of ballast when using the loader. These machines need every pound you can put on them in the rear. Congrats!

The dealer quoted $1700 for 3901 upgrade. Could not justify that. I think those extra ponies come from pump & ECU tweaks by Kubota. Besides my Iseki is 27hp, which was more than adequate for my needs.

Yes, filling tires & ballast box on the short list.

I went with the 3901 simply for more PTO power for my chipper. You are correct, the HP difference between the two is only from minor tweaks.

Another quick, low cost mod.....that didn't quite accomplish what I hoped.

The center hump cover is very gong-like when hit with a boot. Plus the whine of the HST is rather loud. So I added some peel-n-seal flashing tape to the underside. Idea was to quiet things down. It did work to a small degree, but this flashing is not near as heavy as the stuff used for audio applications. Might try another layer to see if furthers the cause. I know the reality is nothing will really help the whine...well perhaps a cab'd Grand L!
