I really hope all the folks he killed were not of one color. That adds a whole additional dimension to this tragedy.
I guess not enough died at Fort Hood to make this horrible top five list.

Of the 30 deadliest shootings in the US dating back to 1949, 18 have occurred in the last 10 years. Two of the five deadliest took place in just the last 35 days.

Oct. 1, 2017 — The Harvest Music Festival, 58 killed
June 12, 2016 — Pulse night club, 49 killed
April 16, 2007 — Virginia Tech, 32 killed
Dec. 14, 2012 — Sandy Hook, 27 killed
Nov. 5, 2017 — First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, 26 killed

The low this morning was 25*, yesterday's high was 43*. We did get another dusting of snow overnight, about 2 more inches. Today's going to be mostly cloudy with the high in the mid 30's.

Made it out yesterday to look for a elk, seen a few tracks. Didn't see much of anything not even a deer. Probably will go out this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

Does anyone have elderly friends or relatives that are not computer/smartphone savvy but have a basic device - tablet, pad, or laptop. I'm looking for a device that my Mom can communicate via e-mail, news, weather and simple large icons, but very, very basic and preferably on sale on black Friday.

Maybe a Chromebook? Comes on very quickly, not much on screen, you could make her own icons. If she can't use a mouse, obviously a touch screen one.

Don, I have an HP desktop and a high powered Dell Laptop but, use my iPad way more than the others.

68°F and .45 inches rain last 24 hours
Still a bit overcast this morning. Will have to see how the day goes.

Have to replace the wax ring in master toilet. Not my favorite job but as I usually manage to get water all over during the removal phase.

Be safe
Have a great day

Any idea what's under the sticker? Some kind of accelerant no doubt, but what would cost $11.98 a shot?

No idea, didn’t look. Wax? The cut ins are both sides.

Would this be a first time computing experience for your mom, Don? I ask because several years ago, before my mom's boyfriend started suffering from dementia, I bought him an Apple iMac, the all-in-one computer at the time. He just couldn't understand the user interface, how to use a mouse, and typing was a big hurdle, too. Those are skills that most of us take for granted, but for someone that grew up with paper and pencil and dial telephones, "it's too much button pushing", as Steve (boyfriend), would say.

I'm not familiar with the latest Windows versions, but if they or a Mac laptop could be configured so that only a few icons appear on the desktop from which she could launch a web browser, email reader, instant message client, etc. that could work very well for her. But you'd have to be her tech support, so be ready to answer her questions with patience and understanding.

I've had my iPad for almost a year, and have to confess I get frustrated almost every time I use it. Some things it does OK, like browsing the web, but there are times when I try to do something that is easy on a laptop and I just can't figure out the iPad way. Yet at the same time I don't seem to have the same problems on the iPhone. I had plans to travel with the iPad instead of a laptop, but now I think that would be a mistake. For me at least, the iPad hasn't been a very wise purchase, judging from the amount of use it gets.

Apple products rarely go on sale, and even the Black Friday deals offer only small discounts, or credits good only on other Apple products of limited usefulness that are way overpriced compared to what they sell for elsewhere.

Several inches of snow over the last couple days, staying cold, forecast says 15 tonight for low. Lots of traffic accidents (folks forget how to drive).. Got Dad's travel trailer put away in shop yesterday, have to move a bunch of stuff before we can put our own away for the winter. We went to move some stuff around last night and realized we don't have any empty pallets. Wife will try and pick one up somewhere this afternoon when she picks grand daughter up from pre school.. then we can finish putting things up in new loft and put our trailer away.

45°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 52° today. Had some severe storms roll through our area yesterday afternoon, but no damage at our place. Lots of wind and some marble-size hail, and temps dropped 20° in about 15 minutes. Looks like 40s and 50s for us for the next week or so.

Spent some time over the weekend working a bunch of little things off the honey-do list; installing basement doorbell, reinstalling ADT smoke detectors, leveling Wife's quilting machine on the new floor, etc. Got in some more work in the studio yesterday afternoon, getting things organized and connected. Couldn't find any more guitar hangers locally, so I ordered them from Amazon. They should be here Tuesday.

Glad you're still hanging out with us, Randy.

Pacifics need protection and we are here to protect you Drew
Thanks. There are a lot of us to protect. Amish, Mennonite, Quakers, Buddhists, etc etc.

As a Buddhist, I will remind you that people of that persuasion have given us some of the most efficient martial arts in the history of mankind. It was, in fact, through my study of several Asian martial arts that I came to appreciate and eventually follow Buddhism.

I generally just keep my mouth shut after these tragedies. I feel terrible for the people directly affected, and nearly as bad for the rest of us who have to endure the inevitable politicization of the event. Ultimately, though, we are all responsible for our own immediate security regardless of where we are. It's definitely a shame when people are targeted in such a placid place, though.
