Well, it's time to get this load of Ash split!

standard.jpg

and as a friend came over and offered to help, we drove the tractor/splitter out to the wagon and got after it, (with some "snain" delays in between lol)

On the bigger rounds, we just pushed them through the 4-way,

standard.jpg

Then flip what was left on top of the 4-way, over back onto the beam and push it through the 4-way again,

standard.jpg

This splitter has some serous power and easily pushes EVERYTHING through the 4-way, so it made fast work of that load of rounds, giving me a nice big pile of splits!

As this firewood is for the 2018/19 heating season, that pile will sit right until next summer and then be boxed for the following fall...

Next, I have my eye on some big oak!

I've got some big oak, but the second picture is about as big as I want to deal with. IMG_0096.JPGIMG_0601.JPG

That’s around the size it’s a hassle to split, I have cut on trees big enough a 25in bar wouldn’t make it threw on either sides, that was a big ash I believe.

The smaller one is about 22". That's a little bigger than I prefer, but I managed by myself. That big one is 40". I haven't needed wood that bad yet.

Thanks guys...

Terry, I really like the BIG pieces too, and if you handle them right, they aren't such a big deal to work with. You just have to work smarter, not harder!

Let the tractor do the lifting, we cut them right over a wagon, no lifting!

standard.jpg

You can do the first split with a chainsaw, or if you have a good/strong splitter just move the splitter to the elevated rounds. We roll them right on to the splitters beam, and let the splitter handle them,

standard.jpg

IF they are really big, I just get a helper to help me roll the big pieces over the top, back on to the beam for re-splitting,

Those BIG rounds make a fantastic pile of splits FAST!

I remember I spoke to a few of you before about 3 pt logging winches. I see the uniforest winches have a deal on right now. For a 35 m, it is $2995 American plus 400 shipping That's American cash. I see a used farmi 351 for sale for Canadian 2500. It would cost be probably 400 to go get it. That's Canadian.
Any questions I should ask about the farmi and its condition. I know little of these 3pt winches. I know the uniforest dealer. He's a good guy, and solid great winches. Maybe better then he famous farmi. Any thoughts.?

Hudson would deliver. Personally next fall possibly. I do favour the the uni- , but farmi is used and thus a little cheaper for me right now
