Anyone have any idea how I can find out what brand gearbox is on my brush hog, The only markings I can find is the following number W-10215-W, it is green but don't know if it is original. Bearings are out both front and rear, race's look OK. Would like to rebuild gear box, if I have to replace I think I should buy a new one, however I don't think I will find one built as good as this unit (old). I am having a hard time getting gear box removed as I cannot slide shaft out to get to the nut which holds shaft to blades on top of bottom gear. ave removed retainer ring behind top gear, but still unit hold tight. Help folks!

Bearings and seals can be bought by getting ID, OD and thickness measurements. If you can pull an old bearing.. many times a number can be crossed over.. etc.

What brand cutter is this...is it a Bush Hog, or another brand?
Once you get that information, you may be able to get a parts manual from the manufacturer (which may also be your best source for the parts).
Also, we can give you more reliable information.

If its that old, I think you may end up with more $ in parts then what the hogs worth. New blades will make it cut like new, depending on overall condition of the bolts and deck on the bushhog.

Agri-Supply show some generic "will fit" boxes. Still kinda spendy for us tite fisted folk. But if your set on fixin' this one. A.S. might have somethin' to help you. I'm in the middle of tryin' to fix a tube on the front tire of the tractor and I've had the tire on and off three times and still don't hold air. If there wasn't two kinds of luck I just wouldn't have any at all. Wish you well if your repairs. bjr

You might post a picture of it here, and get lucky that someone has one just like it, and knows what it is, or even better, have a spare gearbox on a rusted out hull sitting out back. Verbal discriptions loose something in discribing a rotary mower that a picture explains perfectly.

If by any chance you can get them out of the gear box , There should be a few numbers stamped on the edge of the bearing if so there is some auto parts that have them

You would do well if you can find the brand and the model or if not possible then pull the part and find a garage that works on all brands and they may can match you up.

You didn't list your location, so, I don't know if things are the same where you live. In my part of the USA bearing houses/stores are fairly plentiful. The counter men I know are good at whipping out a magnifying glass and calipers to help me find the right bearing.. They search through the inventory in their network and have give me an estimated time of arival. One even sent me a bearing by his wife because we were employed in the same location.

Sounds as if you have a JD 127 Gyramor Rotary Cutter or other JD with same gearbox.
