Well talked to the dealer today and they said only way to replace those thrust washers is to tear the engine down and pull the crank and set in new thrust washers..... Not what I was hoping to hear

If you have the time, you certainly can accomplish the task. Honestly, you already have the tractor split, which I would consider the hardest part. I would buy no parts just yet, and take the engine apart. Find everything it needs, as their may be a few other parts beyond crank/connecting rod bearings and a gasket kit. If you have the time and the coin for parts, this could be a great experience, though maybe not one you intended on having right now.

Have you determined yet if you're going to tackle this yourself?

Only real concern is price of repair vs the worth of the tractor. if there's any crank damage I think I'll be sitting on on big pile of scrap

I work in the oil field as well, I'm offshore right now actually. We just went through a 24,000 hour overhaul on one of our 8 wartsila W26 V16 engines.

Heres a photo of all the A bank pistons set aside.

Well, as a fellow oilfield worker, I need to send you a PM, I've got something you may find handy for this project.

Hey guys I tore the engine down to find all three of the main cases were trashed both sets of thrust washers had fallen out good news was the crank was fine. Put all new seals and bearings in the engine. Just waiting for the clutch to come in took forever to get a answer on the clutch. Found out the clutch was junk and not repairable so had to order a whole new clutch witch will hope fully be here by Saturday. This whole project has turned into one new part at a time seems like every time I look at something or break into something im ordering a new part and word to the wise never ever buy a throw out bearing thru Kioti I got absolutely taken when I got my bill I noticed they charged me 135$!!! For a throw out bearing my clutch builder told me he could get it for 40$!!!!

Always a can of worms when opening an old motor. Once I find a month to set aside for a rebuild, I tend to enjoy it much more from the beginning assuming i will find many things to replace. Hard part is the money and cleaning.

Sounds like you are almost ready, Best of luck! Let us know how it goes!

I suppose that is the one stop short of the worst-case-scenario you were dreading. Bad luck to find the Mains needed replacing as well. At lest you know you have a near-new bottom end after this.

I'd return the TO Bearing to the dealer and let your clutch guy supply the $40 item while you still have in the packet, if you can.

'Well' done! (Pun intended) :)

I like the look of your service truck in the background. We have nothing that big on our roads really.

We have to have big trucks with on board air, cranes and enough tools to swap out these engines, but man those big engines are a less pain in the ***** then this tractor was hahaha
