San Fran seems like a nice place to start.....

I said in an earlier post that there did not appear to be any rebar in the concrete in the spillway. Apparently there is some but from this picture there doesn't seem to be much of it. I'd expect to see a lot more. Overall the design and construction of the spillway looks way too skimpy for something like this. http://www.sacbee.com/news/state/california/water-and-drought/pa7t6p/picture145394089/alternates/FREE_640/FL_Oroville-7745_03_03_2017
Yeah, I would expect something 5 feet thick. Concrete freeway road beds are thicker than that. Looks like a residential driveway. Wasn't even pier'ed

You cannot construct a spillway over permeable material and expect good results. I believe if the earth behind the spillway had been 100% compacted clay, there wouldn't have been a failure.

Oh, I don't know. They construct bridges over AIR and they seem to hold up pretty good. It's all a matter of proper engineering.

I read that this morning. Pretty scary seeing all the vegetation growing in a line like that across the dam

All the posts about it's not the dam, it's no big deal, you guys don't know what you are talking about, you are over the top, the skies falling, the engineers know what they doing, well you all were wrong, it's as serious as serious gets.

Probably the most shocking thing is that the Engineers where lying about the integrity of the dam.

The .gov will fix it. They are rumored to be sending Army tanks there. :)

I would have never thought that building an earth fill dam higher then Hoover Dam was even possible. Let's hope it doesn't wash out.
