Mahindra 2810
Hi Folks,
New to the site and need help if any available. I have a Mahindra 2810 4x3 speed, shuttle shift and seem to be stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear. When I shift out I go nowhere, but if I stay in that gear- which ever it is- I have H/M/L gears and Reverse. I took a cursory look underneath and it has only one piece of linkage that performs the shift functions. That rod seems to be stuck. I gingerly attempted to remove the cover but it didn't seem to want to part from the tractor. I don't want to break it any further, so I was wondering if all i need to do is remove the little linkage cover and rattle something loose- like the forks. Or am I looking at splitting the transmission from the tractor. Any help would be much appreciated. BTW it is a SIDE shift mechanism not a TOP shift (like the old 8N's)

So I will answer this myself. After finally becoming SO discontent with 3rd gear and finding no answers, I broke down and got under the tractor and aggressively disassembled.

In fact the side shift transmission block does come off, once you drain the transmission of oil (~9 gal), disconnect the hydraulic filter outlet flex hose (2 hose clamps), disconnect the inlet and outlet filter housing tubes (1 bolt each then pull the o ring'd pipe) and remove the entire filter housing from the tractor (2 bolts) and disconnect the brake rod (cotter pin and connecting link pin). Once this is complete you have good access to the 4 shift fork cover bolts.

Remove the link pin from between the shift rod mechanism and the fork pin. Remove the 4 cover bolts and wiggle the block off the side of the tranny.

This will expose the 2 shift forks inside the transmission. (My forks got misaligned and my fork pin got stuck) If you look on the back side of the cover you will find the fork actuator pin. Find the neutral position and ensure the slide is free to move from 1st thru 4th gear. Jack up rear of tractor and align both shift forks to the neutral position with a screwdriver (just forward of the cover center-line) and spin tires to ensure neutral position. Realign the shift pin in the cover to the neutral position and replace back on tractor. Reinstall the rest in the reverse order.

Thanks for that valuable information!

My 2810 is getting harder and harder to shift between forward and reverse (shuttle shifter on left of steering wheel).

You have any experience with resolving that problem?

I think, in the manual, it's this section...unless the syncro cups mentioned on this page are actually the syncro cups for going between 3rd and 4th gear...
Mahindra 281 Service Manual (Page 76 of 223)

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sorry for such a long lag time. Between work and Mahindra losing my parts at shipping, I am just finishing up the tractor today.
So I am back to all four gears with H/M/L. Along with fresh fluids throughout. Runs like a champ.

This is for Psychochicken: I too have issues with my shuttle shift. Not sure what you mean by "harder to shift" but my tractor shifter seems smooth, but it tends to grind when trying to go to and from forward and reverse and kicks out of gear on occasion. There seemed to be something like an adjustment nut on the cable on either side and I adjusted mine on the shifter side while I had it apart, but it didn't seem to help. Back to the drawing board on that one. Let me know what you find.
