I have a 3540 PST and I was curious if anyone was experiencing the same difficulty in determining what range you are in. There are no distinct shift or way to know if you are in Med or High or neutral or Med. The lever doesn't really "settle" in if that makes sense.

The range shift if different than that of switching bw 1,2,3,4. With gearing you know exactly when it's in gear. But not so much with the range.

Thanks for the feedback.

My 5035 probably has the same range selection/gear setup that your newer 3540 has, even though mine is a HST. The range selection has subtle detents, and once you develop a feel for moving the straight cut gears from position to position you should have no more trouble. It is a touch or feel that you learn thru using it. Hang in there, soon you will know [ and feel ] when each gear is fully engaged and you will be a pro operator...!!! :)

Thanks Jerry. This would be my only "complaint" of the tractor. Love everything else about it.

My 4yo 4035 took a little getting used to. I don't change the range much except going from road to field which isn't much. I love mine.

Same, mine was difficult to determine if they were fully engaged at first also. Early on, I even once had mine pop out of gear into neutral when going down a large hill. I stood on the brakes and that was enough to keep it slowed down enough I could steer into a ditch for a "soft spot" to get it stopped. I was very lucky I didn't end up rolled onto the side; I lowered my center of gravity by filling my pants. After that I spent a lot of time working the selector between ranges on flat ground and the detents are much more noticeable and smooth. I still will put it in the desired gear, apply a little power forwards or reverse for a moment while wiggling the selector to ensure the gears are fully engaged.

Yeah it takes some getting used to. I am finding it just takes getting more familiar with her.

Thanks
