But I will get some figs, which I have no idea what to do with.

A popular fig use here is to turn them into strawberry preserves. Mom's recipe calls for strawberry jello and then can them like preserves. That reminds me I need to check Mom's fig tree. Since jello is not a plant based food I don't make it, so I also need to find another use for them.

I might try to dehydrate them OR blend them into a paste and use them like I use dates - as a substitute for sugar/eggs/oil.

75°F and clear skies this morning, albeit rather humid (76%), going up to 95° again today.

Went out last night with The Wife and helped her water the new trees. One of the cherry trees is not looking so good. Leaves are starting to wilt a bit. Sure hope it makes it. The rest look pretty good. After all the rain we had earlier in the Spring, we seem to have settled into something of a dry spell here. Looking forward to the possibility of some rain this week. She bought a new adjustable sprinkler last night so she won't have to keep hauling buckets to each one.

Stay cool fellas ... well, except CWB, who seems to be still getting snow.

76F and mostly sunny @ 08:30. They're talking about a chance of a late day isolated thunderstorm. WeatherBug show 0% chance of precip until 14:00 on Wednesday ... so I should be able to get the rest of the front cut and picked up today ... although it likely won't be much fun (high of 88F predicted for today)

Had a bit of excitement yesterday. Was mowing with the Simplicity up along the fence line and I flushed out a turkey.

After I got that done I came back down to the wood lot and was cutting the tall grass down there and all of a sudden the Simplicity started to miss and stutter. Was kind of odd because I knew it had fuel. I started heading over towards the shop and got about halfway there and it quit. I heard something and noticed a funny smell and I looked down and to the left by the drive tire ... and the mower was ON FIRE !

I ran the 75 or so feet up to the shed, unlocked the door, grabbed the fire extinguisher and ran back to the mower and put it out.

Turns out what had happened was that a stick had gotten wedged up under the chassis and had somehow pushed the fuel line and positive battery cable up in the chain drive for the wheel. It rubbed through the insulation on the battery cable, creating a short and mebbe the fuel line too ... which was dripping gas to feed the fire.

This area was under and just forward of the fuel tank (plastic) ... which had about 4 gallons of gas in it. When I saw it initially I about crapped my drawers.

Ran back up to the shop and and grabbed a spring clamp and a pan to catch the fuel and then flagged down The Woman who was mowing on the Kubota and had her bring it over so I could run down and grab a couple of chains so we could tow it back down to the house.

After that little bit of drama we decided to call it a day for outside activities ... other than grilling some hamburgers for dinner.

Fortunately nothing was badly damaged and it should be a pretty easy fix - replace the battery cable, cut off the burnt section of fuel line, and mebbe the fuel filter.

Hope everyone has productive and enjoyable day ... with no unwanted drama ... :D

34° in the Rockies this morning, heading east now. We had to buy sweatshirts yesterday, it was in 50s at the canyon.
Was 107° a couple of days ago in NM.

Good Morning!!!! 56F @ 7:00AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 81F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.

I noticed a week or so ago that Weather Underground has been shuffling place names around again, this time eliminating the one closest to me. The result is that I can pick Paradise, which is about 1000 feet higher and 3-5 degrees cooler, or Oroville, which is 3-5 degrees warmer and 1000 feet lower, for my forecast. Today it's Oroville, so it likely won't quite break into the 80s here.:confused2:

Sounds like you got our mountain snow from Sunday night, CWB. Hang onto your hat for next week, because it's supposed to be in the hundreds here by the weekend.

Finished moving all the pruned limbs to the burn pile, and what a pile it turned into. Lots of mashing it down with the forks on the FEL to get it all on there; it's gonna be a heck of a fire with all those dried leaves in it next winter. Also used the forks to fish out the remains of a stump from an old burn, so it's ready to be filled in, and knocked two snags out of trees, moving them over to the wood pile.

Also managed to get a bit of poison oak on my arms, probably from working in a short sleeve shirt on Sunday. So I join the ranks of the walking wounded with extra washing and ointment applications on the schedule for morning and evening.

95 today, cooling the rest of the week, maybe I can get something done then. Took a nice old cat to the shelter, big old boy, very friendly, but not neutered and no history, he just showed up. None of the neighbors claimed him.

60s today, glad for cooler weather while we prepare for a family camping trip (all the kids/spouses/grandkids) for a few days. Remembered to service batteries (cleaned terminals and topped water off). Need to wrap up a few more items around house and then load pickup (it is very full, kayaks (on rack over truck bed), bikes (on bike rack on front of truck), generator (have to remove wheels to fit in under bed cover on truck), and lots of stuff)... We have to think of the things that one daughter and son in law need as they are flying in from Maryland...

My health is improving and I am able to do lots more... for those that are packing a few extra lbs (I am packing more than a few extra), let me encourage you to make changes to drop some lbs. I am at 24lbs down now with many more to go, I feel much better now and am looking forward to feeling even better as I loose more. For me, it is about eating more often, more healthy and portion control.

That's more excitement then anyone needs. Glad you didn't get hurt.

RedNeck Geek.
I know how you feel about the weather stations. The best I can get is still 30 miles away in Urie Wy and 1500 ft lower.

34* this morning. Yesterday's high was in the 60's before the cold front moved though. That snow shower was all we got. It was gone in a few hours.
Today is supposed to be in the high 50's overcast and still windy.

Hope to put scaffolding up and get started working on the house.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB

I've lost 43 lbs since mid February, a big improvement!
