Good morning!!!!

Got notification that my grapple had been received at the FedEx freight depot, so after taking advantage of the cool morning temps chain sawing a lot more big cedars along the fence line, I picked it up.

Having never had or used a grapple, I must say this thing is a dream come true. I cleared up so many piles of brush and old dead pine logs in just an hour or so before dinner. My old manual lifting and dragging and throwing each tree or bush up on a pile was good exercise, but I've found I get enough of that other ways and it was hard to keep up. Lots more to do once the rain stops.

Have any pics to share, Wng? I've been making due with a 4-in-1 bucket, but I spend a lot more time loading it by hand than I do grabbing things sitting down on the tractor. Make and model number would be helpful, too.

I'm being to think that cardio stress tests are totally worthless. I passed mine with flying colors and had a heart attack (shortly after) 7 years ago, my Mom failed her miserably last week and they could find nothing to fix when she went for her heart cath yesterday. But that is good news because yesterday morning we were pretty sure we were looking at three month delay in moms hip repair surgery as they were prepared to either place a stent or prepare for a bypass but since neither was required (less than 75% blockage) she is still scheduled for her mid May hip surgery. Of course she credits her two week plant based no oil diet but I know it would take a lot longer. Hmmm, but two weeks is all Daniel prescribed in the biblical days. . . . . and I haven't needed any heart procedure and got off almost all my meds . . .

Consumer Reports magazine has a big spread on heart disease this month. They're still endorsing olive oil, but do agree with you that a lot of stents are unnecessary but get put in anyways because it's a real money maker for the hospitals. Worth a read if you get the mag or have a library card.

Wngsprd, I like the way your grapple opens really wide, sometimes I wish mine opened wider also.

my Wife had her first experience this past weekend with those new cans when she tried to fill the Husqy rider. Sprayed gasoline all over the thing because the can had pressurized as it warmed.

I think there's a warning printed right on the can to push the button BEFORE trying to pour the fuel to relieve any built up pressure. Just like your wife, I missed the warning, and first time I tried to refill a chainsaw after the can had been sitting in the sun, got a face full of pre-mix...

Ours are the sliding sleeve variety, RNG. She put it in the filler tube and let the weight of the can press it, and of course it went spraying out the sides ... because that's just a sh!tty design anyway, even when not pressurized.

Good Morning! 53F @ 8:15AM. Partly cloudy this morning. Increasing clouds with periods of showers this afternoon. High 59F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 50%.

Spent a good part of yesterday cleaning house in preparation for the wrenching weekend Saturday and Sunday. Will probably do the same this morning. Also spent time looking for a Benchmade pocket knife that went MIA when I was cleaning up the rascally bender board while dodging rain showers Monday. i was using it to clean out the Philips heads on the screws so I could remove them from the boards, and think I may have left it in the dump bed of the RTV. Somewhere between the house and the final resting place of the 'boards I think I'll find my knife. I've walked it twice, and even got out the Harbor Freight metal detector and walked it again while sweeping. I know the detector works 'cause I found a big nail in the trail. I was happy to find it with the detector rather than with a tractor tire, but I also miss that knife. Went to the Benchmade web site and couldn't find one like it to order as a replacement, but did have some fun with their custom design tool and ordered one I think I'll like better. Even got a zebra print on the M4 blade...

Also cut a chunk of foam off the 4x8 sheet I got at Home Depot to mock up the size of the stereo head unit I want for the van. Used it with the instrument cover to see if the head unit will fit and not drop too far down below the dash or extend too far back where it will hit the brake master cylinder. So now the plan is to either cut down a second instrument cover and mate it to the real one so there will be two sitting side-by-side on the dash, or make a custom one from fiberglass using more of the foam for a buck. I'm leaning more toward the custom one since the lines won't look right with the sawed off instrument cover, but a little Photoshopping today will help me decide.

I also learned this morning that the county has been planning to give CalFire the boot for more than a year, which is probably why I haven't heard back from my county supervisor when I emailed him yesterday to voice my concerns. I did hear back from both my state representative and senator, who say they'll be looking into the situation. Apparently the county thinks that they can take the money that they're paying CalFire and divert it into their general fund and not replace the services that CalFire had been providing. It's all been done on the down low, but now that word is out they're gonna get an ear full at next Tuesday's meeting. At least they're gonna get an ear full from me. It was CalFire that put a fire engine in my driveway last Labor Day when the Saddle Fire swept through here, destroying two homes directly across the canyon from me and burning to within a couple hundred feet of my place. A study I read this morning sez we're getting $50 million in firefighting and emergency response resources for $15 million a year, better than any deal the county can come up with on their own with any savings from a DIY plan. Might be time for some house cleaning on the board of supervisors come next election time, too.

Happy Hump Day, everyone!

I had one of those sliding sleeve spouts also, and hated it just as much. Even when it did pour into the tank, it did so very slowly and my arms would be shaking before the can was emptied. It got replaced with a Hi-Flow spout. But even the Hi-Flow has problems because it's so long that it makes me tip the can far enough to get the spout into the tank neck that fuel starts to pour out before the spout is in the hole. And with a 5 gallon can, it takes both hands to lift it and there's no hand left to guide the spout. So I've taken to using the 5 gallon cans to fill the 2.5 gallon No-Spill, and using that to fill the implements. Drew's big tank and electric pump are sounding better all the time...
