RNG, thought of you yesterday and your quest for a low powered refrigerator when I came across this "OsoKool" that I was given when I first came here. No amps required and this is how they were sold at a time when cheap Peltier devices were completely unimaginable.
Just say and it's yours. A few dimples in the door, but you are getting good at putting them right. Also helps if you like your beer slightly on the warm side.
"No Gas or Electricity", eh? Yeah, but I bet it uses plenty of ice!
The Dometic three way (propane, 12V, or 110V) frig that came with the Vanagon wasn't much better than the OsoKool. I did try it hooked to 12V and then 110V, but found it unable to freeze water in the little ice cube tray provided. It was also noisy. The new Isotherm I ended up with uses something called a SeCOP compressor, though their
literature doesn't bother to tell us what the acronym means. It also has the ASU (Automatic Start Up) feature that will charge a liquid filled stainless steel plate with cold when alternator power is available, then use that stored cold to minimize compressor use while running on batteries. Should be just the thing for weekend off grid camping trips, at least until I can figure out if a solar panel system will be needed.
So thank you sir for your generous offer on the OsoKool, as just the name is very much so. I'll bet it would make a very nice humidor for a cigar aficionado, or a place to keep fishing bait cool on a hot summer day out on the lake, or just a cabinet in the kitchen, perhaps for herbs and spices. But even though I do prefer my beer at cellar temperature, for the van I'll stick with the more modern solution, and save what would surely have been a big postage bill!
