Just saw where Rural king stores are going to start selling tractors with the R/K name, but made by TYM. Their prices look good. May be a good place to also get needed parts..

Interesting. Here's the announcement.

Had these been around last summer, they might have influenced our LS purchase. We have an RK store about 8 miles from our place.

I wish them luck. I always found it curious that places like RK and TSC sold lots of implements, but no tractors.

I seem to recall running across something somewhere recently stating that Rural King did attempt to enter the tractor retail market once before with some cheap Chinese tractors, and had nothing but trouble with them. I hope they have better luck with TYM, which seems to be a fairly respectable company.

Rural King sold Foton tractors for a while. Don't know what happened to that venture.

I hope it works out for TYM. Pretty sure I said the same thing when they made a deal with Cabelas.. :)

I think the impending sale of Cabelas is what did the tractor line in.

Tractor supply tried to sell them a few yrs ago. They failed miserably. You need to be able to offer service to sell tractors.

I think this will be just about like Cabelas in the end. Cabelas has a good service department from what I have seen. I have not taken anything in to know first hand on it. They repair boats a lot besides UTVS and tractors. I haven't seen a chain store have a service department at least in my area. With the new Tier 4 emissions it makes it harder that working on gas engines. You need diagnostic equipment for starters. There is a lot more involved fixing tractors than lawn mowers. Buying a tractor at a chain store is not for me I will stick with a regular tractor dealer.

The Cabelas in Garner NC where I bought my tractor has a good diesel mechanic. We talked about removing the dpf when the warranty is out. He took my through their shop. They have everything to repair these tym tractors. They have all the filters in stock and keep a supply of parts on hand. They also have the computer scan tool for the tym tractors. Thats something a lot of smaller shops do't have. They said they will service the tractors that they sold even though they got out of the tractor business. I was not looking to buy a new tractor but I was at Cabelas on Dec 23rd Christmas shopping and they were taking about $14000 off the price so I bought a LM45. I have to take it back this week to get the display changed out and the canopy installed. I know this tractor with all this computer stuff is going to give me problems later on that I can not repair. Cabelas is not going anywhere. Can't say that for a lot of the the dealers around here that have gone under. I like this tractor, just wish it didn't have all this computer stuff so I could repair it myself.

They just opened a RK in Morganton, NC. 12% rebate on everything this week. That's going to put a dent in my wallet.

I like RK. I order some chems from because its cheeper that CPS even with the shipping. Drexel-me-too-lanchlor is half of what Dual II cost at the local CPS. I wish they would put one in closer to me.

Thanks for the heads up. I planned to make the trip in May in order to stock up on glyphosate for my spraying season. Looks like I will be headed that way this week. The Rural King price for 2.5 gallons of 41% glyphosate with surfactant is $32.55 after the rebate. I was in my local Southern States last week and saw their price was $45.

Free popcorn and coffee....

Ours has had free hot dog days, peanut days, and free ham and bean soup day! The bean ham and bean soup was free, but they were asking for donations for a worthy charity, so what the hey. $5.00 bean soup day. Still good at twice the price.

You know, David, I was just telling my Wife last weekend that I've never actually eaten the popcorn at our Rural King. No idea why, just never have. Maybe I should go in there just for the popcorn. It's bound to cost me less each trip, right? :licking:

As for the comparison with Cabela's, I don't think it's the same thing. Cabela's is a sporting goods store catering to a little different crowd. Rural King is a farm supply store, catering to people who actually use tractors. Sure, there is some crossover there, but I have yet to see a Cabela's store located in a rural community.

My neighbor and I made our first trip to a Rural King (in Morganton, NC) this morning. I don't know whether I should pat myself on the back for being a conscientious shopper or be ashamed that I am a spendthrift. :)

I purchased the following 18 items:
1 splitting wedge
4 pig ears
1 bag (40 lbs.) of birdseed
11 containers (2.5 gallons) of 41% glyphosate
1 container (2.5 gallons) of Crossroad (generic Crossbow)

My bill was $530.42 before tax and before the 12% rebate that is good for this week.

My neighbor, with amazing self-control, got out of the door for less than $50, all spent on .22 ammo.

Cabela's are almost always located along an interstate near a population center. Rural King is rural. I'd guess to say that probably 80-90% of the people I see in our Rural King don't own tractors (lawn tractors excluded). Technically, I don't own a tractor. :D RK has lots of clothes and housewares here. There's tools, landscaping and animal supplies as well. Our store is HUGE! It's an old Super K-Mart building. Compared to the TSC store's here, in all seriousness, I'd bet you could fit 3 TSC stores in this one Rural King.

I'm hoping you have a dog....

I can't leave Rural King without a bag of orange slices. :licking:

I understand that the RK site in Morganton was a Wal-Mart building. I am guessing that it is at least five times larger than the individual TSC stores I have visited (Anderson and Seneca, SC; Statesville and Taylorsville, NC).
