Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

Last fall I bought the HF electric 7amp pole saw for $59. I'm impressed! Did some serious pruning this winter cutting up to 5in branches and it cut great! I figured I would get one job out of it... not so! Lightweight but sturdy enough for occasional use around the house. Trimmed up a bunch of lower branches on my evergreen trees as well. Wait for a parking lot sale or use the 20% coupon. Don't pay the $84.99 price.

How long of an extension cord, and what gauge do you use? I imagined you are close to a power source when you said, around the house.

I don't know... probably used 75ft standard three prong... maybe 14g max. Also for the further put my Honda generator in my FEL bucket and ran 25ft to get to the evergreen trees.

Newspaper article: simple explanation of the class action settlement and the deadlines to claim refunds.

Harbor Freight Tools settlement: Customers eligible for refunds up to 30 percent | AL.com

Here's the rip off section quoted from the site FAQs:

Class Counsel will ask the Court to approve payment of attorney's fees and reimbursement of their expenses of up to $10,000,000.

Attorney's fees and expenses will be paid by Harbor Freight and will not reduce payments to Class members.
[Yeah right, as if HF wouldn't pay customers more if the lawyers took less...]

Class Counsel will also ask for incentive compensation of up to $10,000 for the Class Representative, to be paid by Harbor Freight.
[I take that to mean the person who filed the suit in the first place, but I'm not sure...]

The Court may award less than these amounts. The Court will determine how much to award in attorney's fees and costs to Class Counsel and in incentive compensation to the Class Representatives at the Final Settlement Approval Hearing on July 7, 2017.

Does anyone have the link to the TBN members website of HF coupons that was mentioned a few months ago?
I've tried searching but must have missed it.

Has anyone tried one of these Circuit Breaker Tracer Tools?

Circuit Breaker Detective

I'd like to start marking the breakers in our panels. Each building, at the ranch, has a sub-panel plus a panel in the house.

I bought that, then a similar one from Home Depot. They sort of work but you still have to verify by switching breakers to see if the circuit turns off that you expected. The tool wasn't really a timesaver since it wasn't sufficiently precise. I decided it was more effective to work with a helper or run back and forth between panel/load with only one breaker live.

Note these only work on live circuits, the sender is line-powered.

It's one of those HF items that's nearly a toy.

Why can't they carry a predator engine that's a 3/4" vertical shaft.

I would be a bit suspicious of those things. The ones that do work are a LOT more expensive than that.

I found they'll get you in the right ballpark. If you have no idea which breaker is which, you can reduce the number of breakers you need to try. They sure won't get you to the right one the first time, but in a panel of 20 or 40 breakers, if you only have to try, say 4 or 5 of them, that's a time saver. It'll get you in the right quadrant, anyway.

I wouldn't buy another one, though.

As for the lawsuit....

The suit is related to claims Harbor Freight falsely advertised items at "sale" or "compare at" prices when they were never actually sold at the higher price.

This is one for the many people in this country who scorn education. If you had paid attention in English class, you would never be fooled by, "Compare at $59.95!".

The ignorant assume that that expression is telling them that the item is sold elsewhere for $59.95. Those who understand English recognize that there is no statement there at all. Nothing was actually said. It is not a complete sentence. It carries no meaning at all. It's just a word salad that gives the uneducated an impression which they take as fact.

I used to use the high dollar ones yrs ago, it works well.
For a house I'd just turn breakers off and check.
