Midwest ICE STORM?!?!

All the weather forecasters are predicting ICE for the next few days. Luckily I don't have to go out for anything in it. Power might become an issue since we don't have a generator.

Let us know when you're getting ice and the result of it. The weather channel says there are about 10 million people under an ICE warning. Possible 1/2 to 3/4 inch!

We get an freezing rain/ice storm here in Arkansas every 10 to 15 years. We are still cleaning up from the 2013 storm. 65 acres of pines and it broke or downed 1/3 of them. We were out of power for 10 days. It was a long 10 days with 2 six year olds.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that it either drops well below freezing or stays above freezing.

Our utility (rural electric COOP) spend past few years systemically cleaning right of way. So hopefully the possible power outage(s) will not last long. They also replaced wires on all main powerlines to the type more resistant to breakage due to icing. The wire is flat and twisted. If loaded with ice it starts to untwist and sags lower instead of breaking.

Leaving east central Georgia about 4pm this afternoon headed into the Nowata Oologa area with any luck we should arrive around 5-6am.

The 2009 ice storm in Western Kentucky was awful. Caught everybody by surprise. We were on generator power for two weeks with up to a dozen people staying with us. We had gas logs to heat with. Was told that one third of power line poles snapped off in the county, even metal ones. Trees are still in bad shape from it.

Be careful if you are out in it.

Near Springfield Mo, and a long band on either side of I44 is being iced right now. My SIL in Fairgrove Mo. is getting it now. It was preceded by very heavy rain. I have nothing here in Branson Mo. So far. Just look at the weather radar and stay away from the pink!

Down in Bonne Terre, MO. There's a nice sheet of ice on the cars, fences, and buildings. Roads are still ok. I suspect that's due to the warm temps we've had the past couple of days. If the precip keeps coming, we're in for some pretty heavy ice coverage. Glad I don't have anything pressing me to get back out in it until it thaws.

Same thing in Carbondale in Southern Illinois.. w.e are just due east of you. Rain is falling to the ground and not freezing on the roads or sidewalks but everything else is icing.

I think the worst of it for us in Eastern Kansas is supposed to be Saturday thru Sunday. The Chiefs game right across the border in Missouri could be a SLEET BOWL.

Lost a lot of tree limbs today and the weatherman is calling for up to another .25 inch of ice accumulation tonight. Glade the tractor is parked behind the left door. I can still get it out.

We are getting it for several hours already. But the ice accumulation is low so far. Looking at the Doppler NWS - National Mosaic Enhanced Radar Image: Full Resolution Loop we will get hammered tomorrow.
