If you have one I suggest that you put your name and phone number on it.
My sister opened her drapes to find a drone laying on her patio.
She called the police for advice and an Officer came by, inspected it and said it had no identification on it.
He said they didn't want it, if she didn't want it to throw it away!
With all the warnings about them I have not heard this one.

Depending on the size, they were to be registered.

Depending on the person, and their intentions, maybe they thought it best not to be traceable.

The smaller classes of these aircraft are almost approaching fly and forget, disposable status.

I have a Phantom III. Mine is registered. I bought it to document the foresting and farming of my land. How big is that drone? What brand is it?

I've got a Phantom 4 that's registered and marked with my FAA number. I'd be doing my best to find it if it ever got out of sight.

Got it when I got my land and it takes the best before and after pictures.

I hear they are more fun than shooting skeet.

Just got a Phantom III Pro. Haven't flown it yet (weather hasn't been up to snuff). Plan on registering before flight, and attaching name and address as well.

How many have you heard about being shot down so far? Is it a hobby in your area?

I've looked into them for my work, I am a land surveyor. My understanding is that if its for commercial use, you have to have a pilots license or have a pilot with you when you fly it. Its my understanding that farming is considered commercial use. As a hobby, you don't need the license. I'm not sure how the enforcement works but I suspect you can get in a lot of trouble using one in the wrong place or with out the license.

Big govt doesn't want anyone to have them so they are doing their best to regulate them out of existence.

The faa isn't allowed by law to regulate sub 55lb drones but have done so anyways like most regulatory bodies.

To be legal for commercial use if you're a licensed pilot, current and have had a flight review within 24 months it's relatively easy to get an airman certificate. Just take an online test and get signed off by your local FAA-designated pilot examiner.

Non pilots have to sign up for and take a test at an approved FAA testing site in order to get approved for commercial operations.

Under the part 107 rules the person at the controls of the UAV does not have to be licensed, but a certified PIC (Pilot in Command) has to be present. That might provide you with more options in your case?

It's all laid out on the FAA website: Part 107 of the Federal Aviation Regulations

When the Government comes asking questions just say "Attorney."
If they had a case they would not need to ask questions. You are your own worst enemy when "you talk to the man".
Check out all the youtubes from police, lawyers, judges, former FBI.
I saw one were the guy said he was not in town, which was the truth, but was made out to be a lie and resulted in a conviction.

My brother just got one from Santa, he was playing with it in the park over the weekend. He likes it, might use it for some business. His wife will make sure he is legal...
